A polymeric quenchant. The polymeric quenchant comprises an inorganic nanoparticle, a water-soluble polymer, and water, wherein a weight ratio of the inorganic nanoparticle, water-soluble polymer and water is about 0.05-5:1-5:100. The cooling rate of steel during a quenching process can be adjusted by regulating the components and ratios of the adjusted by regulating the components and ratios of the polymeric quenchant to achieve desirable steel properties.

The present invention relates to a polymer nanocomposite and the process for preparation of the same, wherein a positive-electric polyelectrolyte, a layer-structured inorganic material, such as silicate clay, and a polymer latex comprising an negative-electric surface are &ldquo;co-agglutinated&rdquo; to result in a polymer nanocomposite.

Disclosed is a sPS nanocomposite with improved crystallization properties and higher mechanical strength, which comprises a polymer matrix containing syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS), and a layered clay material uniformly dispersed in the polymer matrix. The layered clay material is intercalated with an organic onium cation and optionally along with a polymer or oligomer which is compatible or partially compatible with sPS. The interlayer distances of the layered clay material are at least 20 &angst;. The sPS nanocomposite can be prepared by ways of in-situ polymerization, melt blending, or solution blending. According to the invention, the layered clay material dispersed in the sPS matrix not only leads to higher mechanical strength, but also, surprisingly, improves crystallization properties of sPS.

Disclosed is a method for forming a polymer nanocomposite, which comprises (a) modifying a clay material comprising layered silicate particles by ion exchange with a surfactant to form an organoclay; (b) dispersing the organoclay in a vinyl monomer and bulk polymerizing said monomer in the presence of a catalyst; and (c) adding a liquid suspension to the above mixture to effect suspension polymerization when the conversion rate of the polymerization is about 10% to 50%, thereby forming a composite having the particles uniformly dispersed in a vinyl polymer matrix.

Method for forming nanocomposites

A resin composition which increases the copper peeling strength and improves the dielectric properties of electric circuit boards is disclosed. The resin composition comprises: (a) 20-100 parts by weight of a syndiotactic polystyrene, (b) 1-40 parts by weight of a functionalized syndiotactic styrene-based copolymer having microfoaming when being cured, (c) 1-40 parts by weight of an epoxy-styrene copolymer, and (d) 0-40 parts by weight of an additive.

Resin compositions for electric circuit boards

A method for producing a thermoplastic nanocomposite is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of: (a) contacting a swellable layered silicate with a polymerizable aminoaryl lactam monomer to achieve intercalation of said lactam monomer between adjacent layers of said layered silicate; and (b) admixing the intercalated layered silicate with a thermoplastic polymer, and heating the admixture to provide for flow of said polymer and polymerization of the intercalated lactam monomer to cause exfoliation of said layered silicate, thereby forming a thermoplastic nanocomposite having exfoliated silicate layers dispersed in a thermoplastic polymer matrix.
