A low-k, non-flammable dicyclopentdiene (DCPD)-derived polyether and a method of producing the same are introduced. Incorporation of a phosphorus group and a DCPD derivative into a low-k, non-flammable dicyclopentdiene (DCPD)-derived polyether enable the DCPD-derived polyether to not only serve as an epoxy resin curing agent but also cure itself such that the cured product not only features satisfactory thermal properties and low-k characteristics but is also non-flammable.

A method of producing a five-carbon ring derivative-containing polyurethane involves introducing a DCPD-derived 5-carbon cyclic compound into a polyurethane material and effectuating polymerization in the presence of a solvent of a low boiling point and low toxicity to produce a five-carbon ring derivative-containing polyurethane of a high molecular weight.

Epoxy/MMT composite material and a crosslinking method for epoxy/MMT composite material with second order nonlinear optical properties are introduced. Chromophore-containing intercalating agents are applied to modify montmorillonites (MMTs) to form organoclays by an ion-exchange process, wherein the chrmophores are neatly packed on exfoliated epoxy/organoclay nanocomposites. As a result, optical nonlinearity, i.e. the Pockels effect is observed for the nanocomposites without resorting to the poling process due to self-assembly process. Furthermore, a series of epoxy/MMT nanocomposites comprising thermally reversible furan-norbornene Diels-Alder adducts are prepared to establish a crosslinking feature. Self-alignment behavior, electro-optical (EO) coefficient and temporal stability of the epoxy/MMT nanocomposites are improved by the Diels-Alders crosslinking.

A copolymer of DCPD-containing benzoxazine (DCPDBz) and cyanate ester resin forms a low-dielectric thermosetting polymeric material for making electronic components. A method of manufacturing the copolymer is also introduced. The method includes allowing DCPD-phenol oligomer, aniline, and paraformaldehyde to react at 110&#xb0; C. for 6-12 hours before being extracted and baked to obtain DCPDBz; and mixing cyanate ester and the DCPDBz at 150&#xb0; C.; heating the mixture up to 220&#xb0; C.

A crosslinkable polysiloxane molecule is in the form of a polysiloxane polymeric chain with a pendant group, that is, a benzoxazine group, and thus is capable of undergoing a cross-linking reaction spontaneously to produce a crosslinkable polysiloxane polymeric material. The benzoxazine group enhances the compatibility between a polysiloxane polymer and a conventional organic polymeric material, functions as a polymer flame retardant or reaction-oriented additive, and widens the application of a polysiloxane polymer to organic polymeric materials in property adjustment and the applicability of the organic polymeric materials.

Method for making waterborne polyurethane with a reactive functional group and a nanocomposite made of the same

A benzoxazine-bridged compound is provided. The compound has a low dielectric constant, a high mechanic strength and a high glass transition temperature. The compound has a highly cross-linked structure with a yellow-light photoluminescent emission. Characterization of the present disclosure has been conducted with Fourier transform infrared, nuclear magnetic resonance, molecular mass and elemental analysis.

A facile synthesis of amphiphilic hyperbranched polymers consisting of poly(amic acid) and polyimide was developed via 'A+B' approach from difunctional anhydride and trifunctional hydrophilic poly(oxyalkylene)triamine. Various amphiphilic hyperbranched poly(amic acid)s (HBPAAs) with terminal amine functionalities and amic acid structures were prepared through ring-opening polyaddition at room temperature, followed by thermal imidization process for the formation of hyperbranched polyimides (HBPIs), accordingly. The resulting HBPIs were analyzed by GPC, indicating the molecule weights of 5000&#x2dc;7000 g/mol with a distribution of polydispersity between 2.0 and 3.8. The amine titration for HBPIs indicated the peripheral total-amine contents to be 8.32&#x2dc;18.32 mequiv/g dependent on compositions.

The method includes the steps of: At first, there is provided a random copolymer with a narrow distribution of molecular weights by active polymerization and chemical modification. Then, chemical modification is executed to graft various generations of dendrimers to the random copolymer to provide a side-chain dendritic random copolymer with various generations. Two steps of emulsification are taken to induce macromolecular self-assembling of the side-chain dendritic random copolymer solution to form the macromolecular vesicle. The side-chain dendrimer includes C&#x2dc;Chydrophobic alkyl chains.

An organic polyurethane shape memory material includes a C10 chain or C18 chain and consists of hard segment and soft segment. The material is produced by reacting the single-chain type dendrimer with diethylenetriamine to produce dendrimer. Then dendrimer reacts with N-(3-aminopropyl)diethanolamine to produce dendritic diols. Next, polymer HO(CHO)xCHOCH(CHO)OH, where x+y=25&#x2dc;26, reacts with methylenedi-p-phenyl diisocyanate, and at least one type of dendritic diols is added to produce the organic polyurethane shape memory material.

Organic polyurethane shape memory material and a preparation method thereof

Methods for producing dendrons of different generations with hydrophobic functional end-groups, and for producing polyurethanes with the side-chain dendrons are disclosed step-by-step. The dendron with hydrophobic functional end-groups in the polyurethane systems, and the honeycomb-like structure thin films are obtained by a breath-figure process.
