The invention relates to a cosmetic composition comprising a low molecular weight silk fibroin and a cosmetically acceptable carrier; wherein said low molecular weight silk fibroin comprises at least 85 parts by weight peptides of molecular weight less than 2500 Da, where amino acid sequence of at least 50 wt % of said peptides is GAGY, GAGAGAGY, GAGVGAGY or AWSSESDF and where said silk fibroin is produced by a process comprising the steps of: (i) mixing an aqueous solution comprising 0.01 to 20 wt % of a high molecular weight silk fibroin of weight average molecular weight 6 to 100 KDa with ochymotrypsin at temperature of 25 to 45° C., under pH of 6 to 9 for 4 to 24 hours; where ratio of said high molecular weight silk fibroin to said ochymotrypsin in said solution is from 100:1 to 300:1 parts by weight: (ii) inactivating excess ochymotrypsin and separating the inactivated α-chymotrypsin from reaction mixture of step (i); and (ill) drying said reaction mixture to obtain said low molecular weight silk fibroin; wherein said composition comprises 0.1 to 10% by weight of the low molecular weight silk fibroin.

Cosmetic compositions comprising low molecular weight silk fibroin

The invention provides an oral care composition comprising: (a) a continuous phase comprising water or polyhydric alcohol or a mixture thereof; and (b) a particulate calcium carbonate abrasive composed of primary particles which are acicular and which have a length of 2 microns or greater; in which the level of the particulate calcium carbonate abrasive ranges from 10 to 70%, preferably from 20 to 60%, more preferably from 30 to 40%, by total weight of the particulate calcium carbonate abrasive based on the total weight of the composition. The composition of the invention demonstrates satisfactory levels of cleaning, yet is not unduly abrasive and damaging to the teeth.

Oral care compositions

Disclosed is a non-aqueous oral care composition comprising an organoclay, carrier humectant and a calcium source. The non-aqueous oral care composition of the present invention is stable, has rheological characteristics of a hydrous oral care composition, and does not require a manufacturing step of heating and cooling.

The process includes the steps of incorporating surface active particles and fiber particles in a liquid food composition, incorporating gas in said liquid composition and packing the food composition.

There is provided a surface-active material that comprises fibers which have been modified so as to impart surface-active properties onto said fibres and giving it a contact angle between 60&#xb0; and 120&#xb0;, wherein the fibres have an aspect ratio of more than 10 to 1,000. The surface-active material can be used for foam and emulsion formation and stabilization, coatings, encapsulation and drug delivery. It can for example be used in the following industries: foods, home and personal care, oilfield, agriculture, textile, construction, emulsion polymerization, leather, plastic, pulp, paper and pharma.
