A sensor unit includes a sensor interface and a host interface. The sensor interface can be coupled to a number of sensors mounted on various locations of the ADV. The host interface can be coupled to a host system that is configured to perceive a driving environment surrounding the ADV based on sensor data obtained from the sensors and to plan a path to autonomously drive the ADV. The sensor unit further includes a sensor processing module and a sensor control module coupled to the sensor interface, and a time module coupled to the sensor processing module and the sensor control module. The sensor processing module is configured to process sensor data received from the sensors via the sensor interface. The sensor control module is configured to control operations of the sensors. The time module is configured to generate time to synchronize timing of the operations of the sensors.

Sensor integration and synchronization unit for an autonomous driving vehicle

A sensor unit utilized in an autonomous driving vehicle (ADV) includes a unit tray containing a sensor interface, a host interface, and one or more sensor processing modules. The sensor interface can be coupled to a variety of sensors used in the ADV, such as, for example, LIDAR, RADAR, cameras, etc., which may be mounted on different locations of the ADV. The host interface can be coupled a host system that is responsible for autonomously driving the vehicle. The host system is configured to perceive a driving environment surrounding the ADV base on sensor data obtained from the sensors and plan a path to autonomously drive the vehicle through the driving environment. The sensor processing modules are configured to process the sensor data obtained from the sensors.

According to some embodiments, before an M.2 compatible module or device is mounted onto a data processing system that operates an autonomous driving vehicle (ADV), the M.2 module is placed onto a tray device to increase the stiffness of the M.2 module. The tray device containing the M.2 module is then mounted on a board or motherboard of the data processing system. Since the M.2 module is placed on the tray device, the overall stiffness has been significantly increased, which can sustain the physical impact on the M.2 module due to the physical movement and oscillation during the autonomous driving of the ADV. In addition, the tray device also provides suspension effect on the M.2 module during the movement of the ADV. As a result, the M.2 module would not easily damaged during the autonomous driving.

Retaining tray for retaining an M.2 compatible device used in autonomous driving vehicles

An IO subsystem chassis includes IO modules and IO slots to receive the IO modules inserted from a frontend of a housing, a baseboard disposed within the housing, the baseboard including first connectors corresponding to the IO slots to receive and connect the IO modules. Each of the IO modules can be coupled a server via the backend panel using a cable. Each IO module includes an IO card having a peripheral device mounted thereon and a card holder having a first receiving socket to receive and hold the IO card plugged in vertically and downwardly. The card holder further includes a second connector to engage with or disengage from a corresponding one of the first connectors of the baseboard horizontally, when the IO module is inserted into or removed from a corresponding IO slot from the frontend, without having to removing the housing.

An electronic rack includes a housing to contain one or more IT components arranged in a stack, a first rack aisle formed on a first side of the one or more IT components to direct cooler air received from the cooling unit upwardly, and a second rack aisle formed on a second side of the one or more IT components to direct warmer air to the cooling unit downwardly. The electronic rack further includes a cooling unit having one or more cooling units disposed underneath the IT components to receive first liquid from an external chiller system, to exchange heat carried by the warmer air using the first liquid to generate the cooler air, to transform the first liquid into a second liquid with a higher temperature, and to transmit the second liquid carrying the exchanged heat back to the external chiller system.

Liquid-assisted bottom air cooling of electronic racks in data centers

A data center system includes a container to contain electronic racks of IT components operating therein, a cooling unit disposed underneath the electronic racks to receive cool liquid from a chiller unit, to exchange heat generated from the IT components, and to transmit the hot liquid carrying the exchanged heat back to the chiller unit. Each electronic rack includes a housing to house IT components arranged in a stack, a first rack aisle formed on a first side of the IT components to direct cool air received from the cooling unit upwardly, and a second rack aisle formed on a second side of the IT components to direct hot air to the cooling unit downwardly, where the host air is transformed from the cool air from the first rack aisle by flowing through an air space between the IT components.
