Tools and techniques for indexing and searching dynamically changing search corpora are provided. These tools may receive requests to upload documents over a network to an online document repository, and present a user interface to facilitate the upload. The user interface may include devices that are responsive to user activation to grant permission to at least one other user to search for content contained within the documents. Through the user interface, these tools may receive selections from the user related to granting the permission, with the documents being associated with share parameters that incorporate the user selections. Finally, the tools may receive identifications of the documents to be uploaded.

Indexing and searching dynamically changing search corpora

Methods and apparatus are provided which enable client-server communication during the execution of a web application to be batched, so as to manage the processing load on server-side components of the web application and the transmission load on the network(s) coupling the client and server. In some embodiments, client-side components of the web application are operable to capture processing events in a change log on the client, and transmit at least a subset of the entries in the change log to the server upon the occurrence of a predetermined event, such as a passage of time since a previous transmission.

Asynchronous client to server updates

A system and method for modifying or converting predicates involving a comparison with a string constant in a query is provided so that the predicates can be evaluated by an external or remote source that uses a different collating sequence, thereby effectively reducing the amount of data sent over a network. Techniques for predicate simplification are also provided for complex predicates. Although it is desirable that the converted predicate precisely match the original predicate, it is not necessary; an imprecise predicate that selects a superset of the target rows is sufficient. Thus, techniques for imprecise conversion are also provided. For an imprecise conversion, the original query is further evaluated against the obtained superset to obtain the final result, whereas for a precise conversion, the returned set is the required set, and no further evaluation is needed.
