The disclosure provides a method, a system, and a computer program product for predicting traffic information for at least one map tile area. The method comprises obtaining probe data and map attribute data for each of a plurality of road segments in the at least one map tile area. The method may include generating current traffic condition data for each of the plurality of road segments in the at least one map tile area based on the obtained probe data and the obtained map attribute data. The method may further include obtaining historical traffic pattern data associated with each of the plurality of road segments in the at least one map tile area. The method may further include generating a tile based traffic index (TTI) for the at least one map tile area based on aggregating the current traffic condition data and the historical traffic pattern data of the plurality of road segments in the at least one map tile area and providing TTI and predicting the traffic information for the at least one map tile area based on the generated tile based traffic index (TTI).

The disclosure provides a system, a method, and a computer program product for updating map data. The system, for example, obtains sensor data from one or more user equipment. The sensor data is associated with a road object. Further, the system, determines a first location of a road observation sight and a second location of the road object based on a timestamp associated with the first location. Further, a distance associated with the second location of the road object and a center point of a link, is calculated. The link is a map matched link associated with the second location. Further, the system updates the map data based on the calculated distance.

An approach is provided for identifying and characterizing mobile work zones (e.g., roadway striping, pothole filling, tree trimming, etc.). The approach, for example, involves processing probe data at a lane level to determine at least one forward forming shockwave associated with a congestion front of a mobile roadwork zone on at least one lane. The approach also involves providing data indicating the mobile roadwork zone as an output. The approach further involves determining a propagation rate of the mobile roadwork zone. The approach further involves determining a congestion recovery speed, where the congestion is caused by the mobile roadwork zone.

A system, a method, and a computer program product may be provided for generating traffic congestion estimation data of one or more lanes in a region. A system may include a memory configured to store computer program code and a processor configured to execute the computer program code to obtain image data associated with the region. The processor may be configured to determine a count of one or more first movable objects in one or lanes, based on image data, calculate a lane object static capacity of the one or more lanes, based on one or more map free flow or speed limit attributes associated with the one or more lanes and generate the traffic congestion estimation data based on count of first movable objects in the one or more lanes, the moving speed of movable objects crossing multiple image frames, the lane object static capacity of lanes.

System and method to generate traffic congestion estimation data for calculation of traffic condition in a region

A method for providing alerts for a traffic slowdown includes receiving location data for at least a first vehicle of a plurality of vehicles, map matching the location data for at least the first vehicle to a road network, calculating an approaching speed for at least the first vehicle at a first time, calculating a final speed for at least the first vehicle at a second time, and generating a traffic slowdown message in response to the approaching speed and the final speed. The traffic slowdown message includes at least one characteristic of the traffic slowdown.

A method for improved traffic congestion estimation is provided using signal phase and timing data from traffic signals at intersections and probe data from vehicles traversing said intersections. An example method may include: identifying each of a plurality of paths through an intersection; identifying signal phase and timing data for each traffic light associated with each path through the intersection; receiving probe data for vehicles approaching or traversing the intersection; estimating a number of vehicles failing to traverse the intersection along a path through the intersection; estimating a congestion status of the path through the intersection based on the number of vehicles failing to traverse the intersection; and causing the congestion status to be provided to permit updating of a map to reflect the congestion status.

At least one traffic signal is associated with a respective intersection. The method also includes identifying a first switching condition and communicating with a second network, different than the first network, in order to receive the information regarding the one or more traffic signals and the information regarding the one or more intersections following identification of the first switching condition.

A method is provided for identifying and indexing lanes of an intersection. Methods may include: determining a directionality for one or more lanes for each of two or more roadways proximate an intersection, where directionality is one of toward the intersection or away from the intersection; determining a bearing for each lane of the two or more roadways proximate the intersection, where the bearing includes a compass heading informed by the directionality; determining a lane position for each lane of the two or more roadways proximate the intersection; generating an order of the lanes using a hierarchy, where the hierarchy considers directionality first, bearing second, and lane position third; causing the generated order of the lanes to be stored in a memory, where the order of the lanes is associated with the intersection; and managing signal phase and timing of the intersection using the generated order of the lanes.

Method, apparatus and computer program product for indexing traffic lanes for signal control and traffic flow management

Disclosed is a method, apparatus, system and computer program configured to process traffic data and provide relevant information to a driver of a vehicle. A method that is disclosed includes receiving probe data from mobile probes; deriving, from the received probe data, an approximate traffic jam shape and traffic jam area; determining when and at what point a vehicle enters the traffic jam area, and an estimated trajectory of the vehicle within the traffic jam area; and based on the step of determining, generating and sending a message to the vehicle informing the vehicle of at least an estimated time when the vehicle will exit the traffic jam area.
