Methods and systems for treating a subsurface hydrocarbon formation are described herein. In some embodiments, method for treating a subsurface hydrocarbon formation is provide wherein the hydrocarbon formation comprises a kerogen containing formation that is adjacent to a formation containing liquid hydrocarbons and not having a natural recharging system, the method comprising the steps of: providing heat sources in the kerogen containing formation; energizing the heat sources to heat the kerogen containing formation; heating at least a portion of the kerogen containing formation to a temperature and for a time period sufficient to pyrolyze at least some of the kerogen; limiting production of pyrolyzed hydrocarbons so that the pyrolyzed hydrocarbons increase the pressure within the formation containing liquid hydrocarbons; and producing hydrocarbons from the formation containing liquid hydrocarbons.

Methods and systems for treating a subsurface hydrocarbon formation are described herein. A method for treating a subsurface hydrocarbon formation includes applying electrical current to a one or more heating elements positioned in a first tubular located in an opening in the subsurface hydrocarbon formation; providing fluid through a second tubular positioned in the first tubular in the subsurface hydrocarbon formation such that a portion of the fluid flows between the first tubular and second tubular and along a length of the tubulars; allowing the fluid to flow into a hydrocarbon layer in the subsurface hydrocarbon formation; and allowing heat to transfer from at least one of the heating elements and the fluid to a portion of the hydrocarbon layer in the subsurface hydrocarbon formation.

A method of heating a subsurface hydrocarbon containing formation includes providing heat flux per volume to a first portion of a subsurface hydrocarbon containing formation. The heat flux per volume is provided by two or more first heat sources positioned in the first portion. Heat flux per volume is provided to a second portion of the subsurface hydrocarbon containing formation with the heat flux per volume being provided by two or more second heat sources positioned in the second portion. The heat flux per volume provided by the two or more second heat sources is greater than the heat flux per volume provided by the two or more first heat sources. The second portion is positioned below the first portion.

Irregular pattern treatment of a subsurface formation

A method for producing alkylated hydrocarbons is disclosed. Formation fluid is produced from a subsurface in situ heat treatment process. The formation fluid is separated to produce a liquid stream and a first gas stream. The first gas stream includes olefins. The liquid stream is fractionated to produce at least a second gas stream including hydrocarbons having a carbon number of at least 3. The first gas stream and the second gas stream are introduced into an alkylation unit to produce alkylated hydrocarbons. At least a portion of the olefins in the first gas stream enhance alkylation. The alkylated hydrocarbons may be blended with one or more components to produce transportation fuel.

Methods of making transportation fuel

Methods and systems for treating a hydrocarbon containing formation described herein include providing heat to a first portion of the formation from a plurality of heaters in the first portion, producing produced through one or more production wells in a second portion of the formation, reducing or turning off heat provided to the first portion after a selected time, providing an oxidizing fluid through one or more of the heater wells in the first portion, providing heat to the first portion and the second portion through oxidation of at least some hydrocarbons in the first portion, and producing fluids through at least one of the production wells in the second portion. The produced fluids may include at least some oxidized hydrocarbons produced in the first portion.

In situ oxidation of subsurface formations

A method for treating a tar sands formation is disclosed. The method includes heating a first portion of a hydrocarbon layer in the formation from one or more heaters located in the first portion. The heat is controlled to increase a fluid injectivity of the first portion. A drive fluid and/or an oxidizing fluid is injected and/or created in the first portion to cause at least some hydrocarbons to move from a second portion of the hydrocarbon layer to a third portion of the hydrocarbon layer. The second portion is between the first portion and the third portion. The first, second, and third portions are horizontally displaced from each other. The third portion is heated from one or more heaters located in the third portion. Hydrocarbons are produced from the third portion of the formation. The hydrocarbons include at least some hydrocarbons from the second portion of the formation.

Moving hydrocarbons through portions of tar sands formations with a fluid

Disclosed is a process for making middle distillate and lower olefins. The process includes catalytically cracking a gas oil feedstock within a riser reactor zone by contacting under suitable catalytic cracking conditions within the riser reactor zone the gas oil feedstock with a middle distillate selective cracking catalyst that comprises amorphous silica alumina and a zeolite to yield a cracked gas oil product and a spent cracking catalyst. The spent cracking catalyst is regenerated to yield a regenerated cracking catalyst. Within an intermediate cracking reactor such as a dense bed reactor zone and under suitable high severity cracking conditions a gasoline feedstock is contacted with the regenerated cracking catalyst to yield a cracked gasoline product and a used regenerated cracking catalyst. The used regenerated cracking catalyst is utilized as the middle distillate selective catalyst.

Method and apparatus for making a middle distillate product and lower olefins from a hydrocarbon feedstock

A method for producing a crude product is disclosed. Formation fluid is produced from a subsurface in situ heat treatment process. The formation fluid is separated to produce a liquid stream and a first gas stream. The first gas stream includes olefins. The liquid stream is fractionated to produce one or more crude products. At least one of the crude products has a boiling range distribution from 38&#xb0; C. and 343&#xb0; C. as determined by ASTM Method D5307. The crude product having the boiling range distribution from 38&#xb0; C. and 343&#xb0; C. is catalytically cracked to produce one or more additional crude products. At least one of the additional crude products is a second gas stream. The second gas stream has a boiling point of at most 38&#xb0; C. at 0.101 MPa.

Methods of cracking a crude product to produce additional crude products

Described is a hydrocarbon cracking process for converting a heavy hydrocarbon feedstock selectively to middle distillate and lower olefins by catalytically cracking a heavy hydrocarbon feedstock within a riser reactor zone by contacting the heavy hydrocarbon feedstock with both a middle distillate selective cracking catalyst in combination with a shape selective zeolite additive under suitable catalytic cracking reaction conditions.
