A protection circuit for an electric appliance that is configured to control power supply to an associated electrical component of the appliance such as a heating device, lamp or motor in the event that unsafe conditions are detected. The protection circuit includes a first comparator module configured to compare an operating parameter input signal to a threshold value and to output a first control signal to a first switching circuit configured to control power flow to the associated electrical component. The first comparator module is configured to receive an enable/disable signal from a first state-change latching device, which is responsive to a state change of the first control signal from the first comparator module, in response to which the state-change latching device changes the enable/disable signal from an enable state to a disable state thereby to set the first control signal into an off state.

In an example, a controller device for a resonant converter includes processing circuitry configured to output a first switching signal and a second switching signal. A device for current protection comprises a switch-mode power supply controller. The switch-mode power supply controller includes an inrush current comparator that is arranged to compare a primary winding current with an inrush current threshold at least during at least one of a startup phase or a burst phase. The switch-mode power supply controller also includes a switch controller that is arranged to control regulation of an output voltage by controlling turning of a primary switch on and off based on a feedback signal that is based, at least in part, on the output voltage. The switch controller is further arranged to, if the inrush current comparator determines that the primary winding current has reached the inrush current threshold, control the primary switch to turn off and remain turned off until at least a next switching cycle.

Methods, devices, and circuits are disclosed for a buck-type AC/DC converter with DC output harmonic control. One example is directed to a AC/DC converter configured to generate a DC output at a target output voltage. The converter is configured to, responsive to an AC input voltage being less than the target output voltage, convert the AC input voltage to a boosted DC output voltage. The converter is further configured to, responsive to the AC input voltage being greater than the target output voltage, convert a first portion of the AC input voltage to a clamped boosted DC output voltage. The converter is further configured to buffer a second portion of the AC input voltage to a buffered DC voltage. The converter is further configured to apply the buffered DC voltage to the clamped boosted DC output voltage.

The present invention relates to a method for charging a DC link of a power converter included in a wind turbine generator, the wind turbine generator comprising a generator side converter connected to an electrical generator and a grid side converter connectable, or connected, to an electrical grid through a grid circuit breaker, and a converter controller arranged to control at least the DC link, the DC link having a DC voltage level, the wind turbine generator comprising a wind turbine rotor arranged to rotate the electrical generator, wherein the method comprises rotating the wind turbine rotor whereby the electrical generator generates electrical power, rectifying the electrical power through at least one diode of the generator side converter in order to pre-charge the DC link to a DC voltage level, closing the grid circuit breaker when the DC voltage level is greater than a threshold level. The invention also relates to a wind turbine generator with a converter controller for controlling pre-charging of a DC link.

In accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention, an inverter circuit includes a direct current (DC)-to-DC power converter configured to receive an input energy from a device via a first input terminal and a second input terminal, where the DC-to-DC power converter is configured to convert a first portion of the input energy to a DC energy.
