Disclosed are methods and apparatuses for fabrication of polymer scaffolds and biological tissues in the multi-well plates in a rapid, high-throughput, controllable and reproducible manner by using optical exposure of the wells to patterned probe light without using a photomask. In some aspects, an apparatus includes a light source to produce a probe light; a digital display device to spatially modulate the probe light to encode a programmable spatial pattern in a spatially-modulated light; a stage to hold a target surface or chamber, wherein the target surface or chamber contains a solution including a material that forms a scaffold or construct based on interaction with the spatially-modulated light projected at the solution; and a computer control device in communication with the light source and the digital display device to control a change of the solution including the material to form the scaffold or construct.

Method and apparatus for high-throughput maskless fabrication of polymer scaffolds and biological tissues in multi-well plates

Implantable devices for spinal cord and peripheral nerve injury are described. The implants include a three-dimensional printed structure having stem cells disposed therein. Also disclosed are methods of treating neuronal injuries with the disclosed implants.

Biomimetic implants

Methods, systems, and devices are disclosed for fabricating 3D piezoelectric materials. In one aspect, a method includes photopolymerizing a selected portion of a two dimensional plane in a sample of a photolabile polymer solution containing piezoelectric nanoparticles to form a layer of a piezoelectric material, the photopolymerizing including directing light from a light source based on a pattern design in the selected portion of the photolabile polymer solution; and moving one or both of the sample and the directed light to photopolymerize another selected portion of another two dimensional plane in the sample to form another layer of the piezoelectric material.

3D piezoelectric polymer materials and devices

A liver-mimetic device and method include a 3D polymer scaffold having a matrix of liver-like lobules with hepatic-functioning particles encapsulated within the lobules. In some embodiments, each liver-like lobule is hexagonal in structure and the matrix is in a honeycomb arrangement. In some embodiments, the hepatic-functioning particles are hepatic progenitor cells. In other embodiments, the hepatic-functioning particles are polymer nanoparticles adapted to capture pore-forming toxins.

Liver-mimetic device and method for simulation of hepatic function using such device

With the rise in resistance to antibiotics such as methicillin, there is a need for new drugs. The invention provides small molecules that inhibit cellular drug targets such as UPPS and FPPS by interacting with binding pockets, thereby preventing enzyme function. Compounds described herein are also active against(MIC90&#x2dc;0.25 &#x3bc;g/mL), can potently synergize with methicillin (fractional inhibitory concentration index=0.25), and are protective in a mouse infection model. The invention therefore provides numerous compounds for anti-bacterial treatments and for restoring sensitivity to drugs such as methicillin, using combination therapies.
