A storage apparatus includes a storage device having a first storage assembly with a plurality of first storage racks and a second storage assembly with a plurality of second storage racks surrounding the first storage racks. At least one of the first and second storage assemblies includes a removable carrier rack configured to align with a selected storage rack of the other first or second storage assembly. A protective cover device includes first and second protective cover assemblies respective disposed on top ends of the first and second storage assemblies. At least one of the first and second protective cover assemblies is openable at an area corresponding to the top of the carrier rack to permit removal of the same.

A method for cryopreserving an umbilical cord tissue strip includes the steps of: (a) applying tension to a segment of an umbilical cord to expand spaces between umbilical cord vessels; (b) cutting the segment of the umbilical cord, at the spaces between the umbilical cord vessels in a longitudinal direction that parallels a length of the umbilical cord vessels, to obtain the umbilical cord tissue strip, wherein the umbilical cord tissue strip contains Wharton's jelly from a perivascular region, a intervascular region, and a subamnion region; (c) incubating the umbilical cord tissue strip with a cryogenic composition; and (d) cryopreserving the umbilical cord tissue strip containing the Wharton's jelly and the cryogenic composition.

Cryopreservation of umbilical cord tissue strips for cord tissue-derived stem cells

A method of preserving an umbilical cord is disclosed. The method comprises obtaining a segment of an umbilical cord; mincing the segment of the umbilical cord into cord tissue pieces; admixing the cord tissue pieces with a cryogenic composition comprising a cryoprotectant and a protein to form a mixture; shaking the mixture for a duration of no shorter than 20 minutes and no longer than 40 minutes; and cryopreserving the mixture.

Cryopreservation of umbilical cord tissue for cord tissue-derived stem cells

An immunogenic composition containing antigen-presenting cells and a heat shock protein or a heat shock fusion protein. Also disclosed is a method of using such a composition for enhancing cell-based immunotherapy, especially cancer immunotherapy. The method includes administering the composition to a target site.

The invention discloses a Lac shuttle vector, comprising at least (a) a region which regulates a plasmid copy number; (b) an eukaryotic gene expression cassette, which comprises at least an eukaryotic gene transcriptional promoter sequence, a multiple cloning site and a transcriptional terminator sequence; (c) a lactic acid bacteria plasmid sequence, which comprises a plus origin of replication, and a nucleic acid sequence encoding for a protein which relates to the lactic acid bacteria plasmid replication; and (d) a non-antibiotic resistance selection gene and the promoter sequence thereof. The Lac shuttle vector features a non-antibiotic resistance gene as a selection marker, which is useful in pharmaceuticals and foods.
