A transflective liquid crystal display (LCD) includes a plurality of pixel regions. Each pixel region includes a transparent electrode receiving a gray voltage and a plurality of electrically floating reflectors. The transparent electrode includes a plurality of openings corresponding to the reflectors. The reflectors are disposed on the corresponding openings.

An exemplary transmission liquid crystal display () includes a first substrate () and a second substrate (); a liquid crystal layer () having liquid crystal molecules interposed between the first and second substrates; a front polarizer () disposed at an front surface of the first substrate, and a rear polarizer () disposed at a rear surface of the second substrate; a first quarter-wavelength compensation member () between the front polarizer and the first substrate; a second quarter-wavelength compensation member () between the rear polarizer and the second substrate; a first discotic molecular film () between the first quarter-wavelength compensation member and the first substrate; and a second discotic molecular film () between the second quarter-wavelength compensation member and the second substrate.

An LCD device () includes a first substrate () and a second substrate (), a liquid crystal layer () interposed between the substrates. Each pixel regions of the LCD device includes a reflection region and a transmission region. A pre-tilt angle of liquid crystal molecules adjacent to one of the substrates is in a range of 0&#xb0; to 15&#xb0;, and a pre-tilt angle of liquid crystal molecules adjacent to another substrate is in a range of 75&#xb0; to 90&#xb0;. This structure ensures the LCD device has a fast response time.

An LCD device () includes a first substrate assembly (), a second substrate assembly (), a liquid crystal layer () having liquid crystal molecules interposed between the substrate assemblies, and alignment films () disposed adjacent to the liquid crystal layer for making liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal layer align homogeneously. The LCD device further employs retardation films () and compensation films () for compensating for color in the reflection region and the transmission region of each pixel region, so as to ensure that the LCD device has a good quality display.
