Among other things, one or more data-links for transferring information between a stationary unit and a movable (e.g., rotating) unit, or between two movable units without contact between the units is provided. A transmitting antenna of a data-link comprises at least two capacitive conducting portions, a first portion configured to conduct signals having a first frequency range (e.g., a higher frequency range) and a second portion configured to conduct signals having a second frequency range (e.g., a lower frequency range). The second portion is comprised of a plurality of members (e.g., conductive plates) arranged to create a substantially continuous electrically conductive structure (e.g., although respective members may not be in physical contact with adjacent members). In this way, a loss of capacitance in a transition between two adjacent members is reduced to provide for transferring information at lower frequencies where a higher capacitance is desirable, for example.

Contactless communication signal transfer

A loop carrier system includes a home local area network having plural telephone modules and a hub coupled to in-home telephone wiring. The telephone modules and the hub communicate voice signals over the in-home wiring in a dedicated frequency band above baseband POTS. The hub converts between voice signals and voice packets and is connected to a network access device for transferring the voice packets from the home local area network to a telecommunications network which routes the voice packets to a gateway. The gateway converts between the voice packets and a circuit format compatible with a local digital voice switch.

The device is equipped with a co-processor including multiple, programmable processors allowing data to be operated on by multiple protocols. The programmable processors within the co-processor include extended instruction sets including instructions providing the operations of zero stuffing, CRC computation, partial compare, conditional move, and trie traversal. These instructions allow the processor(s) of the co-processor to more efficiently execute programs implementing data communications protocols. Since each processor is programmable, protocols standards which change may be accommodated. A network device equipped with the co-processor can handle multiple simultaneous streams of data and can implement multiple protocols on each data stream. The protocols can execute within the co-processor either independently of each other, or in conjunction with each other.
