Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems, a device may select antenna elements from a planar array to transmit or receive an orbital angular momentum (OAM) beam. The device may determine a first area (e.g., a first ring area) based on an angular direction over which the device can communicate an OAM beam with a second device and may determine a second area (e.g., a second ring area) on the planar array based on projecting the first area on the planar array. The device may select a set of antenna elements from the planar array that are located within the second area. The device may determine a complex-valued weight for each antenna element of the selected set of antenna elements and may transmit or receive an OAM beam to or from the second device via the set of antenna elements according to the angular direction.

Generating and steering orbital angular momentum beams

Aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for reducing channel state information (CSI) feedback overhead sent from one or more user equipments (UEs) to a network entity, such as a base station (BS) or gNodeB (gNB), while ensuring correct mapping of the CSI feedback at the network entity. In some cases, the overhead reduction may be achieved by converting the CSI feedback to size-reduced and further quantized representative coefficients (e.g., for multiple UEs). The quantized coefficients allow the network entity to recover the CSI feedback by de-quantizing and correctly mapping the quantized coefficients to recover the CSI feedback.

Providing channel state information (CSI) feedback

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A wireless device (e.g., a base station) may transmit, to a user equipment (UE), an indication of a field type of a field between the UE and the wireless device. The indication of the field type may include one or more bits indicating the field type, a measure indicating a likelihood that the field type includes a first field type as compared to a second field type, an indication that the first type is the same as a second field type configured at the UE, or any combination thereof. The UE may select between a first set of beam weight vectors and a second set of beam weight vectors based on the field type. The UE may communicate, with the base station, a reference signal using a beam generated using a first beam weight vector from the selected set.

Holographic-MIMO field type indication

A method of wireless communication by a base station includes receiving a channel state information (CSI) payload at a neural network CSI decoder. The method also includes decoding the CSI payload to generate a quantity (N) of precoding vectors for N transmission layers. The method further includes orthogonalizing the N precoding vectors to generate N orthogonal precoding vectors. The method still further includes transmitting, to a user equipment (UE), downlink data that is precoded in accordance with the N orthogonal precoding vectors.

Neural network structure for feedback of orthogonal precoding information

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive, from a base station, a channel state information (CSI) configuration indicating a first feedback reporting periodicity for a dominant, or strong, spatial layer and a second feedback reporting periodicity for a non-dominant, or weak, spatial layer. The UE may transmit a first CSI report for at least the dominant spatial layer according to the first feedback reporting periodicity. The UE may transmit a second CSI report for the non-dominant spatial layer according to the second feedback reporting periodicity. In some cases, for aperiodic reporting, the UE may be triggered by downlink control information to report CSI for the dominant spatial layer. In some cases, the CSI configuration may indicate different codebooks for the dominant and non-dominant spatial layers.

Layer-specific feedback periodicity

An apparatus and method for transmitting reference signal and a communication system. The method includes: transmitting first information on one or more beams formed by a plurality of antennas in beam sweeping duration, the first information at least comprising a synchronization channel, a first reference signal and a physical broadcast channel. Hence, a receiving device may demodulate the physical broadcast channel by using the first reference signal, thereby achieving design of beam reference signals in a beam sweeping system.

The method for multiplexing includes: transmitting data and DM-RSs by using one or more time-frequency resource blocks; the DM-RSs of each UE or each data stream occupy a part of frequency-domain resources of the time-frequency resource blocks, the DM-RSs of a part of UEs or data streams are superimposed on identical time-domain resources in a manner of frequency-division multiplexing, and the DM-RSs of a part of the UEs or data streams are superimposed on identical time-frequency resources in a manner of code-division multiplexing. Hence, even if in a case of massive UEs access, the DM-RSs may be multiplexed within given time-frequency resources, while performance of transmission may still be ensured.

Method and apparatus for multiplexing demodulation reference signals and communication system

An apparatus and method for paging a UE and a communications system. The method includes: calculating a first-grade paging group index based on an inherent identity of the UE, or based on an inherent identity of the UE and a network configuration parameter; calculating a second-grade paging group index based on a network identity allocated by an MME; receiving indication information for indicating paging group indices transmitted by a base station; determining whether the information contained in the indication information is consistent with the first-grade paging group index and the second-grade paging group index; and decoding a downlink data channel to determine whether the UE is paged when it is consistent. Hence, different paging groups may have identical or approximate numbers of UEs, which may reduce a probability of 'false paging' of the overall cell.

A network message notification apparatus and method and a communication system. The method includes: receiving a network message transmitted by a network device; the network message including indication information indicating a user identity range; parsing the indication information and determining whether a user identity of the UE falls within the user identity range indicated by the indication information; and determining whether the UE is notified by the network message according to a determination result. Hence, a magnitude of a network message in the communication system may be greatly reduced, and more UEs may be notified by using relatively few resources.

The present disclosure provides a method and apparatus for transmitting a common signal in hybrid beamforming. The method includes: acquiring an analog common signal to be transmitted; selecting a different codeword for each RF chain from a codebook for analog beamforming and obtaining an analog beamformer; beamforming the analog common signal to be transmitted in each RF chain according to the analog beamformer; and transmitting the beamformed analog common signal in each RF chain.
