A turbine engine component assembly includes a first part comprising a ceramic matrix composite material and having a first flange defining a first borehole, a second part defining a second borehole, and a pin inserted, in an axial direction, through the first borehole and the second borehole to connect the first part to the second part. The pin includes a first contact portion positioned at a first axial location of the pin corresponding to the first borehole and an elongated portion extending axially from the first contact portion. The first contact portion includes a first chamfered section, a second chamfered section, and a first contact surface between the first chamfered section and the second chamfered section. The first chamfered section and the second chamfered section slope away from the first contact surface with decreasing diameters.

The inverter switches are manipulated to preclude exceeding a maximum voltage of a DC bus and also to preclude exceeding a maximum phase current magnitude. Systems and methods for compacting components are provided. In one exemplary aspect, a component is positioned between a first tool portion and a second tool portion of a compaction tool. A sandwich structure is positioned between the first tool portion and the component. The sandwich structure includes a thermally expandable material and a rigid shell. The thermally expandable material is positioned between the first tool portion and the rigid shell. During compaction, the thermally expandable material is subjected to elevated temperatures and pressures, e.g., within an autoclave. When subjected to elevated temperatures and pressures, the thermally expandable material applies a force on the rigid shell, which in turn applies a force on the component so as to compact the component between the rigid shell and the second tool portion.

An electric machine may include a plurality of sections, each defining a permanent magnet pocket and a field formation chamber. The sections may be stacked to form a rotor such that when walls of the permanent magnet pockets are aligned from end to end, walls of the chambers of at least some of the sections are offset. An adjacent pair of the sections may have different chamber to pocket relative positions to define different pole arc angles. A difference between the first pole arc angle and the second pole arc angle may be equal to a slot pitch of a stator of the electric machine. The slot pitch may be 7.5 mechanical degrees. The chamber may be defined on a radially outward edge of the pocket. The chamber may taper in a radially outward direction.

The rotor defines a cavity containing a magnet, an outer periphery, and a top bridge therebetween that includes at least two slots each having a length in a radial direction. A maximum of the lengths is closest to a Q-axis and a minimum of the lengths is closest to a D-axis. As the electric machine is operating, a rate of change in airgap flux density through the top bridge differs.

An internal permanent magnet machine has multiple rotor sections, each section having multiple rotor laminations. Permanent magnets are placed asymmetrically in lamination openings to attenuate oscillations in torque caused by harmonic components of magnetic flux. Asymmetry is achieved by placing adjacent permanent magnets or magnet sets on the rotor periphery with different rotor magnetic pole arc angles.

A system and method is provided for controlling operation of an electric oil pump in a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). The HEV includes an engine and a transaxle including an electric motor coupled to a traction battery. A commanded speed for the electric oil pump is determined and whether the engine in the HEV is in an off state is determined. When the engine is in the off state, the electric oil pump is controlled to operate at the commanded speed.
