An apparatus for performing electrical impedance detection and ultrasound scanning of body tissue, the apparatus including: an electrode array for performing electrical impedance detection by applying a first electrical signal to the body tissue, receiving an electrical response signal characteristic of the body tissue, and providing a first output signal representative of the electrical response signal; and an ultrasound transducer for performing ultrasound scanning by applying a first ultrasound signal to the body tissue, receiving an ultrasound response signal characteristic of the body tissue, and providing a second output signal representative of the ultrasound response signal, wherein the ultrasound transducer is mounted so as to be moveable during performance of the ultrasound scanning.

Electrical impedance detection and ultrasound scanning of body tissue

An apparatus for electrical impedance imaging has electrodes arranged on an electrode carrier in an arrangement including a unit of repetition. The unit of repetition repeats over the electrode carrier and has an angle of rotational symmetry less than 90&#xb0;. Specifically, the unit of repetition is an equilateral triangle or a hexagon.

Electrical impedance imaging

A method for analyzing the structure of an electrically conductive object, the method comprising the steps of: (i) obtaining electrical impedance data for the object over a range of frequencies; (ii) analyzing the obtained electrical impedance data using a transfer function of an assumed electrical model to determine a plurality of electrical impedance properties for the object; (iii) constructively combining selected ones of the determined plurality of electrical impedance properties to provide at least one parametric impedance value for the object; and (iii) imaging one or more of the determined parametric impedance values.

Method for analyzing the structure of an electrically conductive object

A method of electrical impedance imaging using multiple electrodes in which each of the multiple electrodes does not contact the object to be imaged but is electrically coupled to the object via electrically conductive fluid in which the object is at least partially immersed.

Apparatus and method for non-contact electrical impedance imaging

There is disclosed electrical impedance tomography apparatus adapted to detect abnormalities in bodily matter comprising: electrical signal generating means for generating electrical signals at a plurality of frequencies; an electrode arrangement for applying the electrical signals to the bodily matter and detecting electrical impendance properties of the bodily matter; and data processing means for correlating the detected electrical impedance properties with the presence or absence of abnormalities in the bodily matter; in which electrical signals of a frequency greater than 1 MHz, preferably greater than 2 MHz, more preferably greater than 3 MHz and most preferably greater than 4 MHz are applied to the bodily matter.
