Described herein are textured glass-based articles. The textured glass based articles may include a glass-based substrate including a first major surface and a second major surface. At least a portion of one or both of the first major surface and the second major surface is textured, wherein the portion of the one or both of the first major surface and the second major surface that are textured may have a sparkle at 140 ppi of less than or equal to 5% and an uncoupled distinctness-of-image of at least 78%. Methods for making such articles are also described herein.

Textured glass-based articles

Methods for regenerating a salt bath composition include heating the salt bath composition to an ion exchange temperature to form a molten salt bath. The methods may further include contacting at least a portion of an ion-exchangeable article that includes lithium oxide (LiO) with the molten salt bath. Lithium cations may diffuse from the ion-exchangeable article and into the molten salt bath. Additionally, the methods may include adding a first phosphate salt to the molten salt bath. A lithium phosphate salt that includes at least a portion of the lithium cations may be formed and precipitate from the molten salt bath. Furthermore, the methods may include adding a multivalent salt that includes a multivalent metal cation to the molten salt bath. A second phosphate salt that includes the multivalent metal cation may be formed and precipitate from the molten salt bath.

Salt bath compositions and methods for regenerating salt bath compositions

Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to salt bath systems for strengthening glass articles including a salt bath tank defining a first interior volume enclosed by at least one sidewall; a salt bath composition including an alkali metal salt positioned within the first interior volume; a containment device defining a second interior volume enclosed by at least one sidewall and including a regeneration medium positioned within the second interior volume; and a circulation device positioned proximate to an inlet of the containment device, wherein the circulation device is operable to circulate the salt bath composition through the containment device. Methods for regenerating a molten salt are also disclosed.

Salt bath systems for strengthening glass articles and methods for regenerating molten salt

A glass article (and methods for forming the same) includes a glass body having first and second opposing primary surfaces and a thickness defined between the primary surfaces. The glass body includes a compressive stress region that includes: a surface stress of greater than about 900 MPa (compressive), a spike region having a first slope, and a tail region having a second slope. The spike region and the tail region can intersect at a knee region having a stress of greater than about 35 MPa (compressive), wherein the stress at the knee region is defined as the point where the asymptotic extrapolation of the spike region and the tail region intersect. The first slope of the spike region can be steeper than about &#x2212;30 MPa/&#x3bc;m.

Strengthened glass articles and methods of forming the same

Glass-based articles comprise stress profiles providing improved scratch resistance. The glass-based articles comprise: a thickness t; a lithium aluminosilicate composition; and a molar ratio of sodium oxide (NaO) to lithium oxide (LiO) that is less than or equal to 0.63 at the center of the glass-based article. The articles have a molar ratio of sodium dioxide (NaO) to lithium dioxide (LiO) in a post-spike near region that is greater than or equal to 0.9 and/or less than 1.5.

Scratch resistant glass and method of making

A glass article is provided that includes: a glass substrate comprising a thickness and a primary surface; and a textured region defined by the primary surface. The textured region comprises a plurality of sub-surface hillocks, each hillock having a top surface and a base, the base located below the primary surface of the substrate. The plurality of hillocks comprises an average lateral feature size from 0.1 &#x3bc;m to 3 &#x3bc;m and an average height from 5 nm to 200 nm. Further, the primary surface of the substrate is substantially planar.

Textured glass articles and methods of making the same

A method of reworking lithium containing ion exchanged glass-based articles is provided. The method includes a reverse ion exchange process that returns the glass-based article to approximately the composition of the glass from which the glass-based article was produced, before being subjected to ion exchange.

According to one or more embodiments disclosed herein, a coated glass article may be made by a method that includes applying a water-based coating mixture onto at least a portion of a first surface of a glass article, and heating the water-based coating mixture to form a coating on the first surface of the glass article, where the coating includes metal oxide and polymer. The water-based coating mixture may include comprise water in an amount of at least 50% by weight of the water-based coating mixture, a polymer or polymer precursor, and a metal oxide precursor. The polymer or polymer precursor may be miscible in the water or may form an emulsion with the water. The metal oxide precursor may be miscible in the water or may form an emulsion with the water.
