Control of a mobile device is transferred to and from an operator. In one aspect, a specification for triggering manual control of the mobile device is accessed. A location is identified within a geographic region that exhibits characteristics defined by the specification. The location is represented in a navigation map and is associated with an operator trigger. As the mobile device approaches the location, a request for manual control is provided to the operator based on the operator trigger, and manual control is initiated.

Method for transferring control to an operator

A discovery of the conversion of amorphous calcium polyphosphate (ACPP) or/and other polyphosphate salts with various type of calcium phosphate to new calcium phosphate product (i.e. dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD)) in a liquid environment. The discovery includes mixing a various type of calcium phosphate with an aqueous ACPP or/and other polyphosphate salts gel, which is fast setting and possessing strong mechanical strength, and can be gradually converted to DCPD/hydroxyapatites in physiological condition. This injectable past can be applied as alternative of conventional CPC bone cement that is suitable for bone void repair due to its excellent properties in osteoconductivity and osseointegration. It can also be applied as drug delivery device in tissue engineering for its strong bonding to drug molecules.

Method of making injectable cements

The present invention describes an injectable calcium polyphosphate (CPP) gel with dense structure, which can be applied as injectable bone void filler in medical field, such as orthopedic and dental applications. Amorphous CPP powder with fine particle size (&#x3c;75 pm) can be completely dissolved in water, forming a homogeneous gelation phase separated from water phase. This homogeneous CPP gel with disentangled inorganic polyphosphate chains shows viscoelasticity and superior adhesion to natural bone, metal implant surfaces and other ceramic material surfaces. The CPP gel is biomimetic and biodegradable with strong osteoconductivity and osteoinductivity. The manufacturing procedure is easy and reproducible. The mechanical strength of CPP gel is controllable by modifications, such as sintering, incorporation of other biomaterials, etc.

Method of making water soluble injectable calcium polyphosphate gels

The present invention relates to a device for preparing three dimensional (3D) nanofibers (blended or coaxial) materials by electrospinning. An automatic nanofiber collector device is used to control the porosity, pore size, crystallinity, geometry, the layer number and thickness of formed nanofibers. The automatic nanofiber collector device includes: (1) a collector platform; (2) a non-conductive device used to fix the collector device; (3) a plurality of electro-conductive wires or needles being pierced through the collector platform with various heights, and (4) the ends of the needles (at bottom) are wired and controlled by a microcontroller, providing forward, stand and backward movements for attached needles. The desired 3D nanofiber scaffold structures can be tailored by the micro-stepping programmable motor controller by changing the pattern and velocity of needle movement, generalized or selective needles movements, as well as intermittent versus continuous movement.

A process for the preparation of a synthetic predominantly single carbon number hydrocarbon fluid comprises the steps of: contacting an alpha olefin having a carbon number of 4 to 30 with a single site catalyst under conditions effective to produce reactive hydrocarbon oligomers that contain reactive double bonds and comprising predominantly dimers, trimers, and tetramers wherein at least 10 weight percent of such reactive hydrocarbon oligomers at least one of trimers and tetramers; separating at least one of said trimers and tetramers in said reactive hydrocarbon oligomers; dimerizing said separated one of said trimers tetramers by contacting said separated one of said trimers or tetramers with a dimerization catalyst thereby producing an unsaturated synthetic hydrocarbon fluid; and contacting said unsaturated synthetic hydrocarbon fluid with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst thereby producing a synthetic hydrocarbon fluid having predominantly single carbon number.

Hydrocarbon compositions useful as lubricants

One or more oligomers of an olefin are prepared in the presence of a single-site catalyst. Preferably, the olefin is an &#x3b1;-olefin, and the oligomers are a poly-alpha-olefin (PAO). The PAO so prepared is completely or substantially free of tertiary hydrogen resulting from isomerization. Consequently, the PAO possesses improved biodegradability, improved oxidation resistance, and/or a relatively higher viscosity index. The PAO has many useful applications, such as a component of a lubricant.

Synthesis of poly-alpha olefin and use thereof

Various vinylidene-containing polymers are obtained in the presence of a single-site catalyst. For example, the polymers include ethylene/isobutene copolymer, ethylene/propylene/isobutene terpolymer, ethylene/styrene/isobutene terpolymer, ethylene/&agr;-methyl-styrene/isobutene terpolymer, propylene/isobutene copolymer, styrene/isobutene copolymer, and &agr;-methyl-styrene/isobutene copolymer. These polymers may be used to formulate lubricant oils.

Vinylidene-containing polymers and uses thereof

A polymeric candle which undergoes a phase transition from opaque to transparent when lit is described. Methods of making such candles also are described. The candle is formed from a candle composition which includes a wax and a polymeric material. The candle composition has a phase transition temperature of about 35&deg; C. or higher. The candle composition is substantially opaque at a temperature below the phase transition temperature, whereas it becomes substantially transparent at or above the phase transition temperature. In addition to the wax and the polymeric material, the candle composition may further include a hydrocarbon oil or mixtures thereof, such as a white oil and/or a poly-&agr;-olefin.
