An optical element comprises an antireflective layer that is disposed on and in contact with a substrate. The antireflective layer has a refractive index of greater than 1 to less than 1.41 and has a pore size ranging from greater than 0 to less than 300 nm. The antireflective layer includes an outermost surface having a water contact angle ranging from greater than or equal to 70&#xb0; to less than or equal to 120&#xb0; as determined using ASTM 5946-04.

Provided in various embodiments are methods for making anti-dust coatings using such UV-curable silicone compositions and the anti-dust coatings using such UV-curable silicone compositions prepared by such methods. The UV-curable silicone compositions may be used in the coating of silicone-based articles for LED packages, encapsulants, lamps, luminaires, optical articles and the like, substantially reducing and/or eliminating the pick-up of dust and improving optical properties of the silicone-based articles.

UV-curable silicone compositions and anti-dust coating compositions containing same

A copolymer composition is provided that is formed as the reaction product of (I) a cured polyorganosiloxane intermediate having repeating Si&#x2014;O&#x2014;Si units and at least one Si&#x2014;OH functional group and (II) a polyfluoropolyether silane. The cured polyorganosiloxane intermediate has a surface having a water contact angle ranging from 40&#xb0; to 90&#xb0; as measured by ASTM 5946-04. In certain embodiments, the copolymer composition provides improved dust resistance as compared with cured polyorganosiloxanes from which the copolymer composition is formed.

Fluorinated copolymer compositions and associated methods, uses and articles

An opto-physical material comprises a curable matrix composition and an effective amount of an ultraviolet light additive dispersed therein. The opto-physical material has a refractive index ranging from 1 to 1.8 at 589 nm wavelength and a light transmission value of 30% or less at any wavelength in the ultraviolet light spectrum. In addition, a test value of an optical physical property for the opto-physical material does not differ by more than 5% from a predetermined value of the optical physical property when the predetermined value is measured under the same measurement conditions for an opto-physical material comprising a comparative curable matrix composition lacking the ultraviolet light additive, wherein the optical physical property is selected from color shift in the visible light spectrum, light diffusivity at any wavelength in the light spectrum, light transmission in the visible light spectrum, and combinations thereof.

A light emitting assembly and method for making optionally includes a light source configured to emit light substantially about a plane, the light having a first spectral profile, and a material configured to shift light incident from the light source from the first spectral profile to a second spectral profile and emit light as shifted. The light, as shifted, is emitted from the assembly generally along an axis orthogonal to the plane.

Light emitting assembly with spectrum-shifting reflectance and method

A reflector for reflecting light emitted by an LED light source and a method of forming the same are provided. The reflector has a unitary silicone body having a first end and a second end opposite the first end. The unitary silicone body has an inner surface extending between the first and second ends. The inner surface defines a first aperture at the first end for receiving the LED light source. The inner surface defines a second aperture at the second end for permitting light emitted from the LED light source to escape the unitary silicone body. The inner surface has a maximum inner diameter between the first and second ends. The inner surface has an inner diameter at the second end that is less than the maximum inner diameter.

A wall notification device described herein can draw a lower current by providing a more efficient reflector configuration. The reflector is designed to be positioned on a wall and provide sufficient light output in each of the requisite directions, as required by the UL 1971 standard. The notification device has a reflector unit having a base having a curved portion centered on the vertical axis and a flat portion extending from the curved portion; a reflective flange extending from a location near a top side of the base; a first and second specular protrusion extending from the curved portion of the base; a third and fourth specular protrusion extending from the base; a fifth and sixth specular protrusion extending from the curved portion of the base; and a sixth and seventh specular protrusion extending form the flat portion of the base.

Optically efficient notification device for use in life safety wall strobe applications

A HID luminaire includes a HID lamp, a reflector, and a lens. The reflector has a proximal end, a distal area, and an intermediate are positioned therebetween. The reflector has an interior surface that includes a first portion that extends from the proximal end to the intermediate area and a second portion that extends from the intermediate area to the distal end. The second portion is less light reflective than the first portion. The lens has two different diffusion rates and includes a center portion having a lens inner diameter and an outer portion surrounding the center portion. The lens inner diameter is about the same diameter as the diameter of the intermediate area. The outer portion is more diffuse than the center portion but allows light to be transmitted therethrough.

Optical system for a luminaire

An optical system includes an outer reflector and at least one inner reflector, wherein the inner reflector is disposed within the outer reflector. The outer reflector has a proximal end, a distal end, and an interior surface extending from the distal end to the proximal end. The inner reflector has a proximal end, a distal end, and an interior surface and exterior surface extending from the distal end to the proximal end. The proximal end of the outer reflector is positioned adjacent a light source, wherein the light source is surrounded by the outer reflector's proximal end. The light source emits narrow angle beams of light through the inner reflector and emits wide angle beams of light between the outer reflector's inner surface and the inner reflector's external surface. The positioning and dimension of the inner reflector prevents the light source from emitting wide angle beams of light directly to an illuminated surface.

Multi-reflector optical system

A ceiling notification device has a housing; a reflector unit mounted to the housing; a lens positioned over the reflector unit; and a lamp in the center of the reflector unit along the central axis. The reflector unit has a base, a plurality of reflective fins, and a surface portion. The base has a curved surface that is symmetrical about a central axis. The plurality of reflective fins each has a first fin portion extending from the base and a second fin portion extending from the base and the first fin portion, the second fin portion having an inner surface and an outer surface, wherein the inner surface is exposed to the central axis. The surface portion extends from the base and positioned between the first fin portion and an edge of the base and is angled toward an inner surface of the second fin portion.

Optically efficient notification device for use in life safety ceiling strobe applications

A light emitting diode (LED) sign lighter is positioned to illuminate a sign. One or more LED modules on the LED sign lighter are directed toward different portions of the sign. Each LED module is configured with a reflector or over-optic to control the angle of the light emitted toward the sign. Each LED module includes an array of LEDs. The configuration of each LED module within the LED sign lighter helps to reduce the build-up of environmental contaminants on the LED module. The center section of the LED sign lighter includes a compartment for housing electrical components to power the LED modules. Heat sink fins are oriented along the back side of the LED sign lighter to provide thermal efficiency for the LED modules.
