Therapeutic compositions comprising chitosan-derived compositions are useful agents when administered in connection with methods for treating neoplasms, such as for instance, malignant lung, thyroid and kidney neoplasms, and other types of malignant neoplasms, and other medical disorders.

Chitosan-derived compositions

The present invention relates generally to therapeutic compositions comprising chitosan-derived compositions used in connection with methods for treating neoplasms, such as for instance, malignant lung, thyroid and kidney neoplasms, and other types of malignant neoplasms, and other medical disorders.

This invention relates to a device and a method for monitoring and optimizing photothermal therapy, using a high-power continuous-wave laser beam and a pulsed laser beam, both transmitted through a single soft, multi-mode optical fiber with a diffuse active tip, to interstitially irradiate the target tissue at the same time. The continuous-wave laser light induces photothermal effect and increases tissue temperature and the pulsed laser light produces a photoacoustic signal. The photoacoustic signal intensity is used to monitor the temperature changes in the target tissue and to guide the irradiation of the high-power laser to optimize the photothermal effect by adjusting the light intensity and irradiation time.

Device and a method for imaging-guided photothermal laser therapy for cancer treatment

A method for constructing a compound of immunologically modified nanotubes and method for using the compound to deliver immunoadjuvants to tumor cells and to produce targeted, synergistic photophysical and immunological reactions for cancer treatment. To prepare the immunologically modified nanotubes, carbon nanotubes are dissolved in a solution of glycated chitosan, an immunostimulant, hence using glycated chitosan as a surfactant for rendering the aqueous solution of nanotubes stable. The compound can be used for treatment of cancer. The method includes steps of intratumorally administering immunologically modified nanotubes and administering laser irradiation of the target tumor. The nanotube serves as a carrier to deliver immunoadjuvants to the tumor cells and serves as a light-absorbing agent in a cell body of a tumor in a host. Upon laser irradiation of target tumor cells, immunologically modified nanotubes inside the tumor cells can produce spatially and temporally synchronized photothermal and immunological reactions for cancer treatment.

Immunologically modified carbon nanotubes for cancer treatment

The present invention discloses a light disinfection device, and the disinfection device at least comprises a disinfection light tube, a controlling body, a circular reflector and a stowage platform. The disinfection light tube is a light source with a circular shape. The controlling body electrically connects with and controls the disinfection light tube. The circular reflector is disposed along the outer side of the disinfection light tube to cover part of light emitted from the disinfection light tube. The stowage platform connects with the controlling body via a rotatable shaft and comprises a transparent plate disposed at the end of the rotatable shaft. Furthermore, the stowage platform extends to the inner side of the disinfection light tube and rotates by the control of the controlling body to let the disinfection light tube irradiate an object on the stowage platform. The disinfection device disclosed in the present invention can disinfect the object by full angular (4&#x3c0; solid angle) irradiation, and the device structure is simple that can be disassembled into parts, including disinfection light tube, the circular reflector and the stowage platform from the controlling body. The configuration is to facilitate portability and convenience for users.

Light disinfection device

The present invention combines physical and immunologic therapies for the treatment of neoplasms by conditioning a targeted neoplasm with an immunoadjuvant (also called immuno-modulator or immunopotentiator) and then physically destroying the conditioned neoplasm. A number of physical therapies can be used to achieve the physical destruction of the conditioned tumor mass.

Combined physical and immunotherapy for cancer

A method for treating a neoplasm, such as a malignant tumor, in humans and other animals, is disclosed. A chromophore and an immunoadjuvant are introduced into the neoplasm. The neoplasm is then lased at an irradiance sufficient to induce neoplastic cellular destruction and to stimulate the self-immunological defense system against neoplastic cellular multiplication.

Laser/sensitizer assisted immunotherapy

A method for the delivery of laser light for therapeutic purposes, and, more specifically, for the treatment of buried tumors wherein multiple lasers are used to treat a deeply buried tumorous mass. In more particular, multiple lasers in a spatial array are used to simultaneous irradiate a tumor from a multiplicity of different directions. Tumors treated in this way are heated more homogeneously than those treated via conventional single-laser treatments. Additionally, a multiple source laser treatment scheme puts the enclosing normal tissue at lesser risk than it would be exposed to if the treatment were conducted using via a single laser source.

Laser light delivery method

Chitosan-derived biomaterials, and, more specifically, chitosan modified by the addition of a monosaccharide or oligosaccharide side chain to its free amino groups. The modified chitosan ('glycated chitosan') is preferably stabilized by reduction. In one particularly preferred embodiment, a galactose derivative of chitosan ('galacto-chitosan') is provided. The chitosan-derived biomaterials are useful in a myriad of biomedical applications, including as an immunoadjuvant in laser/sensitizer assisted immunotherapy.
