An apparatus operable in a communication system is described. The apparatus includes means for obtaining a wireless communication device thermal condition input. The apparatus also includes means for adapting a network search algorithm. Adapting a network search algorithm includes adapting a network search algorithm based on the wireless communication device thermal condition input.

Systems and methods for adapting a network search algorithm

Methods and apparatuses are provided that facilitate avoiding one or more wireless communication systems based at least in part on determining a level of unreliability of a reverse link channel related to a system. This can be based at least in part on determining whether the system can be accessed over the reverse link channel. If not, the wireless communication system can be avoided to conserve power utilized to perform such access attempts. Where the unreliability is temporary, however, some access attempts can be performed for systems of higher priority than a current system during the period of avoidance of one or more higher priority systems.

Method and apparatus for selecting wireless communication systems

The present disclosure presents methods and apparatuses for managing Multimode System Selection in one or more user equipment in a wireless system. According to some aspects of the present disclosure, such a method may include discovering whether a user equipment (UE) contains at least one 3GPP network subscription and at least one 3GPP2 network subscription, determining whether 3GPP2 network subscription information is stored on a Universal Integrated Circuit Card (UICC) or a nonvolatile memory (NV) associated with the UE where the UE contains at least one 3GPP network subscription and at least one 3GPP2 network subscription, and performing a read operation on one or both of the UICC and NV to obtain one or more Multimode System Selection (MMSS) base files based on the determining.

Methods and apparatuses for initiating multi-mode system selection at user equipment power up

Out-of-service (OOS) scanning in mobile equipment is disclosed in mobile equipment having two or more modems. The OOS scans are performed for one of the modems. A determination is made that a first status exists in response to detection that one of the OOS scans proved unsuccessful. Another determination is made that a second status exists in response to detecting that one other of the modems is not experiencing an OOS condition. In response to existence of the first status and the second status, information is utilized from the other of the modems to make a determination whether a third status exists. A determination is made, conditioned at least in part on existence of the third status, whether to perform another of the OOS scans.
