Architecture and design techniques for a single inductor multiple-output (SIMO) DC-DC converter are presented. The SIMO DC-DC converter is based on ordered-power-distributive-control (OPDC) scheme with several novel control mechanism to optimize the performance of the power delivery capability, conversion efficiency and voltage ripple. In addition to buck mode outputs, the new SIMO DC-DC converter can also have an output channel operating at auto-buck-boost mode for the input voltage varying with the usage time.

Single-inductor multiple-output DC-DC converter

A single inductor multiple-output DC-DC converter includes an inductor coupled to a first input switch and a second input switch to store energy from supply source, wherein the first input switch is coupled to an input supply node, and the second input switch is coupled to ground, the first and the second switches controlling current through the inductor; a plurality of output switches, each output switch coupled to a common inductor node and to a corresponding output supply node, each of the output supply node having a voltage converted from an input voltage received at an input supply node; a freewheel switch coupled between the common inductor node and ground; a control circuit receiving a sensed inductor current and a plurality of feedback signals indicating error signals between output voltages and their corresponding reference voltages, the control circuit being configured to control timing and charging current of the inductor.

Single-inductor multiple-output DC/DC converters with pulse-skipping mode and deadtime switch control

The present invention discloses a multipurpose half bridge signal output circuit. The multipurpose half bridge signal output circuit is capable of selectively operating under a charge sharing mode or a gate pulsing modulation mode. The multipurpose half bridge signal output circuit includes: a first output pin; a second output pin; a first circuit zone having a first common end coupled to the first output pin; and a second circuit zone having a second common end coupled to the second output pin.

The present invention discloses a short-circuit detection circuit and a short-circuit detection method. The short-circuit detection circuit detects whether an output node is short-circuited to a first predetermined level. A first switch circuit which is controlled by a control signal is coupled between the output node and a second predetermined level. The short-circuit detection circuit includes: a determination circuit, which is coupled between the output node and the second predetermined level, wherein when the determination circuit is enabled, it generates a determination signal according to whether the output node is short-circuited to the first predetermined level; and a second switch circuit, which generates a short-circuit detection signal according to the determination signal.

For a charge pump, a control circuit switches two or more input voltages to apply to one or more pumping capacitors under auto-sensing control to modulate a maximum pumping voltage as close as to a demanded output voltage to thereby reduce the difference between the maximum pumping voltage and the output voltage for efficiency and thermal improvement of the charge pump. The maximum pumping voltage is produced by mixing the different input voltages and the charge pump may provide more operation modes.
