Methods for making cigarette filters and cigarettes using the activated carbon sorbent and methods for treating mainstream tobacco smoke produced by smoking a cigarette comprising the sorbent are also provided.

A nickel-based superalloy composition includes from about 5 to about 7 wt % aluminum, from about 4 to about 8 wt % tantalum, from about 3 to about 8 wt % chromium, from about 3 to about 7 wt % tungsten, from 1 to about 5 wt % molybdenum, from 1.5 to about 5 wt % rhenium, from 5 to about 14 wt % cobalt, from about 0 to about 1 wt % hafnium, from about 0.01 to about 0.03 wt % carbon, from about 0.002 to about 0.006 wt % boron, and balance nickel and incidental impurities. The composition may exhibit a sustained peak low cycle fatigue life at 1800&#xb0; F./45 ksi of at least about 4000 cycles. The nickel-based superalloy composition may be used in single-crystal or directionally solidified superalloy articles, such as a blade, nozzle, a shroud, a splash plate, and a combustor of a gas turbine engine.

A handheld hydrosol delivery device includes a canister which is at least partially filled with a liquid formulation of one or more liquids and optional particles, and one or more propellants where at least one of the liquids, propellants, particles and combinations thereof is a flavor; a pressure valve which expels at least a portion of the liquid formulation and at least a portion of the propellant from the canister while dispersing the propellant into the liquid formulation forming a consumable flavored hydrosol comprising one or more gases dispersed within the liquid formulation, through a nozzle delivering the hydrosol to a user.

Cigarette paper, methods for making cigarettes and methods for smoking cigarettes are provided, which involve the use of an oxyhydroxide compound that is capable of decomposing to form at least one product capable of acting as an oxidant for the conversion of carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide and/or as a catalyst for the conversion of carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide. The oxyhydroxide compound and/or the product formed from the decomposition of the oxyhydroxide can be in the form of nanoparticles. The oxyhydroxide compounds can be represented by MOOH where M is a metal selected from the group consisting of transition metals, rare earth metals, and mixtures thereof.

A wrapper for a smoking article includes nanoparticle spinel ferrite catalyst and a web including cellulosic fibers and an optional web-filler. The web-filler can be a modified web-filler which incorporates the spinel ferrite catalyst. The nanoparticle spinel ferrite catalyst can be a nanoparticle manganese-copper-iron oxide catalyst incorporated in the wrapper and/or a tobacco cut filler. Also provided is a smoking article including a cigarette tobacco rod having a wrapper including a web, a web-filler, and a nanoparticle spinel ferrite catalyst, the web-filler optionally supporting the nanoparticle catalyst. A method of making the wrapper and a method of making a smoking article utilizing the wrapper are also provided.

A system and method is provided for dispersing fine catalyst powders having nanoscale or microscale particles throughout the tobacco rod portion of a cigarette. A source of vacuum is connected to the filter end of a cigarette through a tube that is sealingly engaged with the filter end of the cigarette. The opposite cut filler end of the tobacco rod portion of the cigarette is placed in the proximity of a predetermined amount of the catalyst powder contained in a container. The vacuum is applied to the cigarette filter in an amount and for a period of time that is a function of the size and quantity of the particles to be drawn into and dispersed throughout the tobacco rod portion of the cigarette.

A creep resistant titanium aluminide alloy having fine particles such as boride particles at colony boundaries and/or grain boundary equiaxed structures. The alloy can include alloying additions such as &lE;10 at % W, Nb and/or Mo. The alloy can be free of Cr, V, Mn, Cu and/or Ni and can include, in atomic %, 45 to 55% Ti, 40 to 50% Al, 1 to 10% Nb, 0.1 to 2% W, up to 1% Mo and 0.1 to 0.8% B or the alloy can include, in weight %, 50 to 65% Ti, 25 to 35% Al, 2 to 20% Nb, up to 5% Mo, 0.5 to 10% W and 0.01 to 0.5% B.
