A collet includes a cap, a conduit grasper, a collet bore, and a collet slot. The grasper is composed of a flexible material such that the grasper is compressible in response to an applied force. A conduit such as a column is installed in a fluidic component by passing the conduit through the collet and into a fluidic coupling device. The collet is then coupled to the fluidic coupling device so as to compress the grasper against the column, thereby securing the column in the fluidic coupling device. The conduit may then be inserted into the fluidic component, and fluidic coupling device may be coupled to the fluidic component to complete the conduit installation. The collet or at least the cap may then be removed by moving the collet or at least the cap around the column via the collet slot. The grasper may be removed via a grasper slot.

Systems and methods for perceiving a scene around a mobile device include a sensor system capturing an image of and object list data for the scene around the mobile device. The image includes a point cloud with group(s) of points. An object list is generated from the object list data, and the object list indicates a location and a speed of each surface in a set of surfaces in the scene. A perception system generates a selected perception using the image and the object list. The selected perception is generated based on a comparison of first, second, and third perceptions within a hierarchy. The first perception includes object speed and object location. The second perception includes object classification and object tracking, and the third perception includes object type and object model. A motion planner generates a motion plan for the mobile device based on the selected perception.

Systems and methods for perceiving a scene around a mobile device

Control of a mobile device is transferred to and from an operator. In one aspect, a specification for triggering manual control of the mobile device is accessed. A location is identified within a geographic region that exhibits characteristics defined by the specification. The location is represented in a navigation map and is associated with an operator trigger. As the mobile device approaches the location, a request for manual control is provided to the operator based on the operator trigger, and manual control is initiated.

Method for transferring control to an operator

A ferrule includes a body surrounding a bore that provides a fluid path along a central axis between a first end and a second end of the ferrule. The body includes a conical section configured for forming a sealing interface with a fitting in which the ferrule may be inserted and a sealing interface with a tube that may be inserted in the ferrule bore. The conical section includes collapse zones configured to collapse in a direction along the central axis in response to axial compression of the ferrule against the fitting. The collapse zones mitigate crushing of the ferrule against the tube. The collapse zones may be provided by a sealing region at the nose of the ferrule and annular grooves on the ferrule.

Methods and apparatus for preventing the failure of slender syringe needles used for on column injection in gas chromatographs are disclosed. A needle holder designed to support the needle precludes bucking deflection beyond the maximum allowable value. In a preferred embodiment, the needle used is a tapered needle that has a proximal diameter and a distal diameter that is smaller that the proximal diameter. In these embodiments, the diameter of the bore through the needle holder is slightly larger than the proximal diameter to permit the full insertion of the entire needle structure. The needle holder bore diameter is sufficiently small, however, to preclude catastrophic failure due to buckling.

Methods and apparatus for automated on-column injection using a slender

A system and method are shown for performing cool, on-column sample injection into a chromatographic device having a capillary column which injection is achieved through the use of a syringe having a needle. The column diameter is minimized by the provision of an inlet assembly connected to the inlet end of the column, a sealing member disposed in the inlet assembly, for forming a fluid tight seal in the inlet end when the sample is injected onto the column to prevent the sample from escaping and for reducing the effective length of the needle at the point of insertion of the needle into the column and a guide member for reducing the effective length and for supporting the needle during insertion into the column. A temperature controller for controlling the temperature of the column in the region where the sample is injected is also disclosed. The sealing member is shown to include an elastomeric member and further the system includes a mechanism for continuously cooling the elastomeric member. The elastomeric member is shown to include a septum having a bore formed therein for passage of the needle therethrough. A new sample vial closure is also shown for use in the system, which closure applies only a minimal axial force on the needle. In such a system and method the need for a long syringe is obviated. The column inner diameter can be minimized by the system and method which permits the needle of the syringe to having a minimum outer circumference.
