Relaying communications in advanced LTE systems

A method and an apparatus for handling closed subscriber groups in a relay-enhanced system are provided in the invention. The method includes: retrieving setting information relating to closed subscriber groups of a donor base station and a relay node of a relay-enhanced cellular system; acquiring a whitelist defining one or more closed subscriber groups in which a terminal is a member, the terminal requesting access to the relay-enhanced cellular system via the relay node; and verifying (i.e. checking and/or validating) a membership of the terminal for both closed subscriber groups of the donor base station and the relay node based on the retrieved setting information and the acquired whitelist. With the method and apparatus of the invention, user access control via the relay node in the relay-enhanced access networks can be improved.

The present invention provides a method, apparatus, and a computer program product for performing one or more minimizing drive test (MDT) measurements, defining a validity time threshold for each kind of MDT measurement, verifying, prior to reporting one of the MDT measurement results, whether the validity time threshold defined for the respective MDT measurement result to be reported, is exceeded, and, if the validity time threshold is not exceeded, reporting the MDT measurement result.

Validity time configuration for immediate MDT reporting

A network receives from a user equipment UE information about a measurement configuration used to log test measurements; and the network uses the received information to determine further signaling to send to the UE concerning further test measurements. The network can compare the received measurement configuration to a measurement configuration for the further test measurements; and if the same can merely indicate to the UE to continue using the same configuration else if different can indicate to the UE the new configuration to use for the further measurements. The UE logs the test measurements taken in the IDLE mode. After exiting the IDLE mode it sends to the network with which it connects information about the measurement configuration used to collect the measurements. The information can be sent in a RRC Connection Setup Complete message along with an availability indictor that the logged test measurements are available.

Logged drive test reporting

A buffer information report can be sent to a system station from a node for relaying communications between at least one user station and the system station. The report is generated based on a report format used for uplink reporting by a user station. An indication is also sent to the system station that the node for relaying has different buffering capabilities than the user station. At the system station the buffering capabilities of the node for relaying can be determined based on the buffer information report and the indication. Communications between the system station and the node for relaying can then be controlled accordingly.

After a successful authentication in a femto system, a home base station management system is used to send configuration data to a home base station and manage the home base station over a secured management connection. The configuration data stored in the management system is classified into two types: a) Device-related configuration data, which are indexed by a device ID; and b) subscriber/user-related configuration data, which are indexed by a subscriber ID. The management system sets up a binding relationship between device ID of the home base station and the subscriber/user identity of the USIM/SIM installed in the home base station. Then the management system generates full configuration data for the home base station based on the combination of the binded IDs. In other words, the full configuration data contains device-related configuration data selected from the classified configuration data based on the binded device ID, and user-related configuration data selected from the classified configuration data based on the binded subscriber/user ID. The management system then sends this full configuration data to the home base station.

The detecting device may be adapted to detect a condition for a handover. There is proposed a mechanism for charging control and a charging client relocation. When it is determined that a relocation of a charging related functionality for a communication connection from a previous charging client node to a new charging client node is executed, the new charging client node requests quota information used in a charging procedure for the communication connection from a charging server node. A charging agent is informed by the new charging client node about the relocation to the new charging client node after predetermined information is received from the previous charging client node and the quota information is received from the charging server.
