Techniques are described for battery management in a computing device. The described techniques may be implemented by a battery offline module that provides functionality to control utilization of a battery such as determining whether the battery is available to receive power from a power source. For instance, the battery offline module may receive an input requesting that a battery be taken offline, determine whether system conditions for taking the battery offline are met, and take the battery offline when the system conditions are met such that the battery is not capable of receiving power from a power source of the computing device. In some instances, the battery offline module may cause different powering and charging arrangements between multiple batteries of the computing device. By implementing the battery offline module in the computing device, battery utilization is controlled to improve battery life.

Offline battery management in a device

A testing system may include an electrical cable, a computing device, a communication interface, at least one downstream device, and testing software. The communication interface may be coupled to the electrical cable and to the computing device. The at least one downstream device may be coupled to the electrical cable. The testing software may be stored on the computing device. The testing software may be configured to initiate and evaluate transfer of data between the computing device and the at least one downstream device through the electrical cable and the communication interface.

Techniques for battery management of a device having multiple batteries are described herein. In one or more implementations, management for increased battery reliability involves assessing a combination of factors that influence a control policy for multiple batteries in a battery system. Based on the assessment, values of control parameters for power management of the battery system are set to reflect a tradeoff between performance and reliability. Then, at least one of battery utilization or charge current distribution is controlled in dependence upon the values that are set. Control of the battery system can be based in part upon differences in cycle counts for multiple batteries of a battery system for a device, such that cycle counts of the multiple batteries are managed for improved reliability.

Systems and methods for associating a wireless device to a host. The wireless device is associated to the host via a binding and discovery process. The binding process establishes the association. A unique identifier and other binding information is provided to the wireless device, which is stored in the wireless device to establish the link to the console. The binding information is retained in the wireless device. The discovery process enables the wireless device to join a session at hosted by the host. The host sends broadcast packets that are compared to the stored information in the wireless device. The broadcast packets are validated and authenticated to complete the discovery process. A visual indicator on the host and/or controller may indicate the success or failure of either the binding or discovery process.

A system communicates with a device in both a wired mode and a wireless mode, and is able to switch between these two modes without permanent disruption to an ongoing use. The system is configured to receive an indication of a condition that suggests switching from the wireless mode of operation to a wired mode of operation, to display a notification for the device to switch, and to transition from the wireless mode of operation to the wired mode of operation.

Game system that converts between wireless operation and wired operation while communicating with a controller

A method of associating a controller to a console comprises, at the controller, establishing a connection with the console such that the controller is assigned to one of a plurality of different ports of the console over which different controllers may separately communicate with the console. A visual indication is then provided on the controller to indicate to the user of the controller which one of the plurality of different ports of the console has been assigned to the controller and over which the controller communicates with the console.

Controller notification system

A game controller operates in both a wired mode and a wireless mode, and is able to switch between these two modes without permanent disruption to an ongoing game. The game controller is configured to detect a condition that suggests switching from the wireless mode of operation to a wired mode of operation, convey the indication to a host game system, and transition from the wireless mode of operation to the wired mode of operation.

Methods of wireless communication between a gaming console and a wireless accessory using a protocol. The protocol is used in a TDMA frequency hopping spread spectrum system to enable simultaneous communication of voice and data between a plurality of wireless accessories and the gaming console. The protocol provides specific time slots for upstream and downstream transmissions, as well as a retransmission time slots to enable a robust environment with minimal latency.

Systems and methods for providing notifications to players of a gaming console of messages and system notifications. A controller and the gaming console include a four quadrant LED indicator. Each quadrant of the ring may be illuminated individually or together using an LED to indicate the messages and notifications. The quadrants may be illuminated in one of three colors and/or in patterns to indicate different types of notifications. Onscreen displays may be used to supplement the LED indicators to convey information to users. A method of binding and discovering a controller is also provided where the controller may be bound to a gaming console. After a controller is bound to a console, the controller may be discovered by the gaming console where it is assigned a virtual port and enabled for game play.

Game console notification system

A device for suppressing ambient sounds from speech received by a microphone array is provided. One embodiment of the device comprises a microphone array, a processor, an analog-to-digital converter, and memory comprising instructions stored therein that are executable by the processor. The instructions stored in the memory are configured to receive a plurality of digital sound signals, each digital sound signal based on an analog sound signal originating at the microphone array, receive a multi-channel speaker signal, generate a monophonic approximation signal of the multi-channel speaker signal, apply a linear acoustic echo canceller to suppress a first ambient sound portion of each digital sound signal, generate a combined directionally-adaptive sound signal from a combination of each digital sound signal by a combination of time-invariant and adaptive beamforming techniques, and apply one or more nonlinear noise suppression techniques to suppress a second ambient sound portion of the combined directionally-adaptive sound signal.
