A method of compressing and storing preview video includes performing colorspace-reduction image compression on a reference frame of a video to generate a colorspace-reduced reference frame; determining difference blocks representing areas of a subsequent image frame that differ from the reference frame and generating a difference frame comprising colorspace-reduced image data of the difference blocks; generating a video stream comprising a color palette, the colorspace-reduced reference frame, and the difference frame, and storing the video stream in an extreme low-voltage memory; and injecting, into the video stream prior to storing the video stream in the extreme low-voltage memory, a plurality of resynchronization codes for each reference frame and a plurality of resynchronization codes for each difference frame, the resynchronization codes comprising a byte sequence unique to resynchronization codes. Embodiments continue with decompressing the compressed video and using the resynchronization codes to recover from bit errors in the memory.

Image compression technique for low-power, always-on camera systems

A low-power image capture device includes a first image buffer in SRAM coupled to receive images from an image sensor, and a second image buffer receiving images transferred in bursts from the first image buffer, the second image buffer implemented in PASR DRAM, the image buffers together operating as a first-in, first-out, (FIFO) buffer. The device includes an activation detector. The PASR DRAM is powered while receiving bursts of images from the first image buffer, and when the image capture device is in the activated mode; and in ultra-low power PASR mode otherwise. A method includes capturing images into the first image buffer, transferring the images in bursts into a second image buffer in PASR DRAM powered while receiving the images in bursts, the PASR DRAM otherwise in ultra-low power PASR mode; and, upon activating, an image processor receiving images from the second image buffer.

Camera system with PWM-activated, burst-self-refresh, DRAM to reduce standby power consumption

A near-eye display device includes (a) a display unit having a liquid-crystal-on-silicon (LCOS) display and a first polarizing beam splitter interface for (i) reflecting illumination light from an illumination module towards the liquid-crystal-on-silicon display and (ii) transmitting display light from the LCOS display based on the illumination light, and (b) a viewing unit having an imaging objective that forms an image of the LCOS display for the pupil based on the display light, and a second polarizing beam splitter interface for (i) reflecting reflected display light from the imaging objective towards the pupil and (ii) transmitting ambient light from an ambient scene towards a pupil, the second polarizing beam splitter interface and the first polarizing beam splitter interface being orthogonal to a common plane.

Near-eye display systems, devices and methods

A 360 degree camera system includes a support structure, a plurality of image capture devices, a plurality of lens systems, and an image processing system. The image capture devices are positioned such that their height is greater than their width. The image processing system includes a rotation module for remapping the pixel addresses of the image data to join the captured images along their long edges.
