The method includes storing, within the memory device, a plurality of online advertisements. At least some of the plurality of online advertisements include offers. The method also includes identifying a candidate offer included within an online candidate advertisement from the plurality of online advertisements stored within the memory device, validating the candidate offer including determining that a web site associated with the online candidate advertisement includes data matching the candidate offer, and enhancing the display information associated with the validated candidate offer prior to providing the online candidate advertisement associated with the validated candidate offer.

Multiple effect with vapor compression distillation apparatus

The present invention is a high efficiency permanent magnet machine capable of maintaining high power density. The machine is operable over a wide range of power output. The improved efficiency is due in part to copper wires with a current density lower than traditional designs and larger permanent magnets coupled with a large air gap. In a certain embodiment wide stator teeth are used to provide additional improved efficiency through significantly reducing magnetic saturation resulting in lower current. The machine also has a much smaller torque angle than that in traditional design at rated load and thus has a higher overload handling capability and improved efficiency. In addition, when the machine is used as a motor, an adaptive phase lag compensation scheme helps the sensorless field oriented control (FOC) scheme to perform more accurately.

High efficiency permanent magnet machine

A method of forming a non-polarizing pellicle beamsplitter having a desired power-tap ratio. The method includes the operation of forming a base layer having a base refractive index on a substrate and arranging a plurality of alternating layers having relatively high and low indexes of refraction respectively over the base layer. The thickness of each of the high index and low index layers is selected to substantially eliminate polarization of the optical beam. The method further includes the operation of removing a selected area of the substrate to create an optical pathway comprised of both the base layer and the plurality of alternating layers, and where the optical pathway is configured to transmit and reflect a selected amount of light in the optical beam.

A sensing system can include one or more particles having one or more plasmon resonances. The particles can be positioned adjacent to the active region of a sensor to enhance the sensitivity of the sensor to electromagnetic radiation having frequencies corresponding to the plasmon resonances. An array of sensors such as used for color imaging can employ different types of particles adjacent to different sensors, so that different sensors sense different colors. During fabrication of such sensors, the particles can be applied mechanically or using a process such as inkjet printing.

A switching of antennas used by the customer's wireless communication device to transmit an uplink signal is restricted to switching time periods that comprise one or more of a transition gap immediately preceding a transmission of a channel quality-related uplink signal and a time period subsequent to the occurrence of the transition gap but prior to the transmission of the channel quality-related uplink signal, which channel quality-related uplink signal may be used by a serving radio access network to update a channel response and antenna array weights associated with the customer's wireless communication device. The customer's wireless communication device then switches antennas used for uplink transmissions only during the switching time periods.

Method and apparatus for implementing uplink transmit diversity in a switched antenna orthogonal frequency division multiplexing communication system

A heat exchanger includes at least one hot fluid flow channel comprising a first plurality of open cell porous elements having first gaps therebetween for flowing a hot fluid in a flow direction and at least one cold fluid flow channel comprising a second plurality of open cell porous elements having second gaps therebetween for flowing a cold fluid in a countercurrent flow direction relative to the flow direction. The thermal conductivity of the porous elements is at least 10 W/m&#xb7;K. A separation member is interposed between the hot and cold flow channels for isolating flow paths associated these flow channels. The first and second plurality of porous elements at least partially overlap one another to form a plurality of heat transfer pairs which transfer heat from respective ones of the first porous elements to respective ones of the second porous elements through the separation member.

Various embodiments of the present invention relate generally to systems for performing Raman spectroscopy. In one embodiment, a system for performing Raman spectroscopy comprises an analyte holder having a surface configured to retain an analyte and a light concentrator configured to receive an incident beam of light, split the incident beam into one or more beams, and direct the one or more beams to substantially intersect at the surface. The system may also include a collector configured to focus each of the one or more beams onto the surface, collect the Raman scattered light emitted from the analyte, and direct the Raman scattered light away from the surface.

Various embodiments of the present invention are directed to methods for coupling semiconductor-based photonic devices to diamond. In one embodiment of the present invention, a photonic device is optically coupled with a diamond structure. The photonic device comprises a semiconductor material and is optically coupled with the diamond structure with an adhesive substance that adheres the photonic device to the diamond structure. A method for coupling the photonic device with the diamond structure is also provided. Devices and methods for detecting the constituent parts of biological polymers are disclosed. A molecular analysis device comprises a molecule sensor and a molecule guide. The molecule sensor comprises a single electron transistor including a first terminal, a second terminal, and a nanogap or at least one quantum dot positioned between the first terminal and the second terminal. A nitrogenous material disposed on the at least one quantum dot is configured for an interaction with an identifiable configuration of a molecule. The molecule sensor develops an electronic effect responsive to the interaction. The molecule guide is configured for guiding at least a portion of the molecule substantially near the molecule sensor to enable the interaction.

Method and apparatus for molecular analysis using nanoelectronic circuits

A system can include a transmitter that produces an optical signal having a plurality of carrier frequencies and a receiver separated from the transmitter by free space through which the optical signal propagates. The receiver includes an array of detectors of multiple types, with the types being capable of detecting light respectively having the carrier frequencies. A location of an incident area where the optical signal is incident on the detector array generally depends on a misalignment of the receiver relative to the transmitter, but the detectors in the detector array are arranged so that at least one detector of each of the types detects light from the optical signal regardless of where the incident area is on the detector array.

Various embodiments of the present invention are directed to crossbar array designs that interfaces wires to address wires, despite misalignments between electrical components and wires. In one embodiment, a nanoscale device may be composed of a first layer of two or more wires and a second layer of two or more address wires that overlays the first layer. The nanoscale device may also include an intermediate layer positioned between the first layer and the second layer.
