A method using a convolutional neural network to auto-determine a first floor height (FFH) and a FFH elevation (FFE) of a building. The FFH, and FFE of the building are determined with respect to the terrain or surface of the parcel of land on which the building is located. In turn, by knowing the FFH and/or FFE of the building on the parcel, it is possible to use that information while performing a flood risk assessment to a property without requiring a personal inspection of the parcel by a human.

This document describes systems and techniques for a current-limiting control strategy for single-loop droop-controlled grid-forming inverters. In aspects, a hysteresis module is configured to compare an output current detected across one or more transistors in an inverter controlled by the single-loop droop converter with a specified maximum current and to generate an overcurrent signal. The overcurrent signal presents a fault signal responsive to the output current exceeding the specified maximum current. A logic array is configured to logically combine gate control signals generated by the single-loop droop controller to selectively direct the one or more transistors to allow the output current to flow therethrough with the overcurrent signal to present modified gate control signals to the one or more transistors. The logic array is configured to replace one or more of the gate control signals in the modified gate control signals with a gate disable signal responsive to the overcurrent signal presenting the fault signal.

Methods include, in response to a line frequency variation of a power grid, adjusting a voltage setpoint of a voltage regulator coupled to the power grid at a grid edge to maintain a voltage at the grid edge, wherein the adjusting the regulated voltage setpoint is configured to reduce the line frequency variation to stabilize the line frequency of the power grid. Apparatus include a voltage regulator configured to couple to a power grid at a grid edge and to maintain a voltage at the grid edge, wherein the voltage regulator is further configured to adjust a voltage setpoint of a voltage regulator in response to a line frequency variation of the power grid to reduce the line frequency variation and stabilize the line frequency of the power grid.

Using distributed power electronics-based devices to improve the voltage and frequency stability of distribution systems

Apparatus and methods are disclosed for restoring operation of a power grid comprising a plurality of reclosers and distributed energy resources (DERs) responsive to abnormal conditions by determining and implementing a reconfiguration for the power grid. The reconfiguration can specify respective new statuses for one or more of the reclosers and/or respective quantities of reactive power to be supplied by one or more of the DERs. The reconfiguration can be determined based on a plurality of constraints using an objective function, the constraints being determined based at least in part on recloser status data and/or DER power generation capability data. Respective cleared quantities of reactive power for the DERs to supply to the reconfigured power grid can be determined via a transactive control scheme, and the reconfiguration can be updated prior to implementation based on the results of the transactive control scheme.

Reconfiguration of power grids during abnormal conditions using reclosers and distributed energy resources

A system, method and computer program product cooperate to extract a building footprint from other data associated with a property. Imagery data of real property is input to a computing device, the imagery data containing a plurality of parcels. A processing circuit detects contrasts of candidate man-made structures on a parcel of the plurality of parcels. The candidate man-made structures are then associated with the parcel. A building footprint is then extracted by distinguishing a man-made structure on said parcel from natural terrain, recognizing that man-made structures when viewed from above generally show a strong contrast from background terrain. Remaining candidate man-made structures are removed by observing that they having features inconsistent with predetermined extraction logic.

In various embodiments, a flood risk score may be determined for a property point that provides a comprehensive assessment of the property point's risk of flooding. Determining the flood risk score may include determining a flood risk characteristic for the property point and assigning a flood risk score that corresponds to the flood risk characteristic. In some embodiments, flood risk characteristics may include a difference in elevation between the elevation of the property point and an elevation of a calculated point (e.g., on a known flood risk zone boundary). Flood risk characteristics may also include a flood zone determination for the property point and/or proximity of the property point to a known flood risk zone boundary or a flood source. In some embodiments, flood risk scores may be provided on flood risk score reports.

Systems and methods for quantifying flood risk

In various embodiments, points from flood maps (e.g., geospatial flood risk zoning maps) may be used in generating a flood frequency versus flood elevation curve for reducing the uncertainty in the flood risk assessment. In some embodiments, geospatial flood elevation lines for flood elevation lines at different flood frequency levels may be defined based on elevation datasets where there are inconsistencies between the elevation datasets and flood maps that were generated. The flood frequency versus flood loss curve may be derived based on the computed flood frequency versus flood elevation curve, digital elevation datasets, and collected damage curve. In some embodiments, the flood risk rating may also be derived and a flood risk assessment report may be generated.

Method of assessing population with a spatially-stratified random sample comprising creating a grid on a study area, the grid being defined by target grid points to form grid cell, dividing each grid cell into a series of sub-grid cells, each of the series of sub-grid cells being identified from left to right and bottom to top within each of the grid cells, identifying and listing each sub-grid cell that intersects the study area, the list of sub-grid cells being sequences in the same order as the grid cells and the sub-grid cells, dividing the sub-grid list into sections, each of the sections being configured to have substantially equal numbers of sub-grid cells, and the number of sections being equal to the number of targeted grid points, and selecting a random sub-grid cell from each section of sub-grid cells to obtain the spatially-stratified random sample.
