A method of processing an alloy workpiece to reduce thermal cracking may comprise spraying a metallic coating material onto at least a portion of a surface of the alloy workpiece to form a surface coating metallurgically bonded to the alloy workpiece. The surface coating may be more ductile than the alloy workpiece and reduces heat loss from the alloy workpiece.

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to nickel-base alloys and methods of direct aging nickel-base alloys. More specifically, certain embodiments of the present disclosure relate to methods of direct aging 718Plus&#xae; nickel-base alloy to impart improved mechanical properties, such as, but not limited to, tensile strength, yield strength, low cycle fatigue, fatigue crack growth, and creep and rupture life to the alloys. Nickel alloy and method including direct aging

Embodiments of the present invention relate to nickel-base alloys, and in particular 718-type nickel-base alloys, having a desired microstructure that is predominantly strengthened by &#x3b3;'-phase precipitates and comprises an amount of at least one grain boundary precipitate. Nickel-base alloys and methods of heat treating nickel-base alloys

Alloy tool steels of the present invention may be suitable for metalworking tools, bearings, gears, and specialized automotive parts, such as camshafts and lifters. A steel alloy, comprising: by weight, 0.5 to 1% carbon; 0.5 to 2.0% vanadium; 1.0 to 2.0% aluminum; 0.2 to 1.0% silicon; chromium; molybdenum; manganese; and iron. Further embodiments of the alloy tool steel consisting essentially of: by weight, 0.5 to 1% carbon; 0.5 to 1.5% vanadium; 1.0 to 2.0% aluminum; 0.2 to 1.0% silicon; 3.5 to 4.5% chromium; 0.1 to 0.5% manganese; 3.5 to 4.5% molybdenum; less than 0.05% nitrogen and the balance iron. In certain embodiments, the alloy tool steel comprises a ratio of the weight percentage of aluminum to the weight percentage of silicon in the range of 1.7 to 2.2.

Tool and bearing steels

A nickel-base alloy includes, in weight percent, up to about 0.10 percent carbon; about 12 up to about 20 percent chromium; up to about 4 percent molybdenum; up to about 6 percent tungsten, wherein the sum of molybdenum and tungsten is at least about 2 percent and not more than about 8 percent; about 5 up to about 12 percent cobalt; up to about 14 percent iron; about 4 percent up to about 8 percent niobium; about 0.6 percent up to about 2.6 percent aluminum; about 0.4 percent up to about 1.4 percent titanium; about 0.003 percent up to about 0.03 percent phosphorous; about 0.003 percent up to about 0.015 percent boron; nickel; and incidental impurities. The sum of atomic percent aluminum and atomic percent titanium is from about 2 to about 6 percent, the ratio of atomic percent aluminum to atomic percent titanium is at least about 1.5, and the atomic percent of aluminum plus titanium divided by the atomic percent of niobium equals about 0.8 to about 1.3. The nickel-base alloy may be provided in the form of an article of manufacture, such as, for example, a disk, a blade, a fastener, a case, or a shaft. A method for making a nickel-base alloy also is disclosed. Precipitation hardening (PH) stainless steels heat treatable to yield strength levels in the range of 200 ksi with exceptionally high fracture toughness are achieved in alloys consisting essentially of 12.25-13.25% chromium, 7.5-8.5% nickel, 2.0-2.5% molybdenum, 0.8-1.35% aluminum, not over 0.05% carbon, not over 0.10% silicon, not over 0.10% manganese, not over 0.010% phosphorus and with especially critical amounts of not over 0.0020% (20 ppm) nitrogen, not over 0.0020% (20 ppm) sulfur, not over 0.0026% (26 ppm) nitrogen plus sulfur; not over 0.04% titanium, and remainder essentially Fe.
