A system and method for in-situ characterization of functional devices. The system comprises a vacuum chamber; a pump system coupled to the vacuum chamber for evacuation the vacuum chamber to near ultra high vacuum pressures of about 10mbar or lower; a sample holder for a functional device based on nanostructured materials disposed inside the vacuum chamber and configured to provide electrical connection to the functional device for measuring electrical properties of the functional device; and a source system for exposing a surface/interface of the functional device to a modification species; whereby the system is configured to measure the electrical properties of the functional device in-situ upon the exposure to the modification species.

Van der Waals heterostructure memory device and switching method

The present invention relates to a process for the production of halogenated butyl rubber and an apparatus for the production of rubber cement for use in the production of halogenated butyl rubber. The process and apparatus permit direct mixing of aqueous rubber slurry with a non-halogenated organic solvent to make a rubber cement solution. The water layer is then separated from the partially dissolved rubber cement and the cement phase is sent for halogenation. The apparatus is an enclosed vessel comprised of at least one dissolving zone and at least one separator zone. The process and apparatus advantageously employ recycle of rubber cement in order to disrupt an interface layer that forms between the water and rubber cement, to thereby improve continuously operation of the process.

One embodiment relates to a circuit for efficient wireless communication. The circuit includes an antenna interface module adapted to receive multiple frequency components via an antenna. Multiple reception paths stem from the antenna interface module, where different reception paths are associated with different frequency components. This invention also provides an isolated nucleic acid which encodes a peptide, wherein the peptide is encoded by a nucleic acid molecule comprising nucleotides 527 through 595 of SEQ. I.D. No. 1 and the purified peptide. This invention also provides various methods of using the disclosed isolated nucleic acid and peptides.

Mutant human hepatitis B viral strain and uses thereof

The present invention provides an in vitro activity assay for human hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA polymerase, which comprises using, as the 5' oligonucleotide in PCR amplification of HBV DNA polymerase from a sample, an oligonucleotide into which has been incorporated the SP6 viral polymerase promoter, directly transcribing and translating the PCR products in the presence of a radio-labelled agent and measuring the priming of the HBV DNA polymerase. The present invention also provides the use of such an assay to assay activity of various serum samples, to screen for inhibitors of the HBV DNA polymerase and to test and/or screen potential anti-HBV drugs for their ability to inhibit DNA priming activity of human HBV DNA polymerase.
