Disclosed herein are composite materials that comprise one or more nanophosphors capable of converting higher frequency, lower wavelength radiation into visible light. As used, the produced visible light enhances the amount of visible light already present from natural or artificial sources.

Nanophosphors for visible light enhancement

Disclosed is the use of copper cysteamine nanoparticles for use in photodynamic cancer therapy. The disclosed methods of treatment utilize microwave radiation as a means for activating the copper cysteamine photosensitizer.

Photodynamic therapy for use in treating cancer

Structure and luminescence properties of a new Cu-Cysteamine (Cu-Cy) crystal material are provided. The crystal structure of the Cu-Cy is determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. It is found that the compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c and cell parameters are a=7.5510(4) &#x212b;, b=16.9848(7) &#x212b;, c=7.8364(4) &#x212b;, &#x3b2;=104.798(3)&#xb0;. The new Cu-Cy crystal material of the invention is also useful for treatment of cancer.

Copper-cysteamine and methods of use

This invention relates to new phosphor materials exhibiting luminescence and methods for their production. More particularly, the invention relates to new europium-doped zinc sulfide-manganese (ZnS:Mn,Eu) phosphors and use thereof for radiation detection.

Apparatus and methods of generating electricity include using an optically and thermally responsive material comprising single-walled Carbon nanotubes and Copper sulfide nanoparticles. This material acts as a thermoelectric generator lacking rectifying effects. In some forms, the generator may generate electricity from a light source alone, a heat source alone, or a source of both light and heat. Some forms exhibit enhanced optical and thermal switching characteristics, light absorption, photocurrent and thermocurrent generation under light illumination or/and thermal radiation, providing a new route to obtain thermoelectricity without any cooling or heat-sink component. Moreover, measurements showed thin films of SWNT CuS NPs had significantly increased light absorption (up to 80%) compared to untreated SWNT thin films.

Optically and thermally responsive nanohybrid materials

The present invention relates to diagnostic and therapeutic nanoparticles. More particularly, the present invention relates to creating a copper (Cu)-based nanoparticle and a method for making the same. The Cu-based nanoparticles can further be incorporated with additional therapeutic or diagnostic compounds and used for the diagnosis and treatment of tumors.
