A synergistic flame retardant composition comprising a phenolic compound comprising condensed tannin, hydrolysable tannin, lignin, cardanol, quercetin, catechin, epicatechin, anthocyanidin, catechol, dopamine, hydroxytyrosol, adrenaline, 4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid, gallic acid, digallic acid, methyl gallate, ellagic acid, phloroglucinol, hexahydroxydiphenic acid, luteic acid, casuarictin, or a combination thereof; and a phosphorus-containing compound comprising a Ccarbocyclic polyol substituted with at least one phosphate group.

Synergistic flame retardant compositions and fiber blends including the same

An electrochemical tongue can be used for detection of metal ions. The reference electrode of the electrochemical tongue can be coated with a polymer. More than one reference electrode can be used, and the electrochemical tongue can be inserted into a cone penetrometer for portable, in situ analysis.

A chemical compound of structural formula (I) useful in preparation of flame retardant materials is disclosed. Homopolymer, and copolymers of a compound of formula (I), as well as methods of preparing said homo- and copolymers are also disclosed. Polymers described herein advantageous possess low heat release capacities and high char yields.
