A method of preparing a biocompatible polymeric coating includes preparing an aqueous polymer solution by contacting and reacting methacrylic acid and at least one methacrylate or phosphorylcholine. The methacrylate or phosphorylcholine may include hydroxyethyl methacrylate, polyethylene glycol monomethacrylate, or methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine. An aqueous coupling agent solution is prepared and is either applied to the substrate surface or is mixed with the polymer solution to form a coating solution. If the coupling agent solution was first applied to the substrate surface, the polymer solution is then applied to the primed substrate surface. Alternatively if a coating solution was created, the coating solution is applied to the substrate surface. In either event, the polymer solution and coupling agent solution react with the substrate to form the biocompatible polymeric coating on the substrate surface.

An intermediate transfer member for electrophotography includes a substrate, a cured static dissipative silicone compliant layer comprising crosslinked silicone polymer formed from a UV light curable siloxane and a UV curing catalyst, and an outermost surface ceramer layer. An inkjet receiving media comprising a substrate having a transparent topmost layer coated thereon at solid content of from 0.3 to 2.5 g/m, wherein the topmost layer includes from 30-70 wt % of one or more aqueous soluble salts of multivalent metal cations, 5 to 20 wt % of a cross-linked hydrophilic polymer binder, 4 to 12 wt % of a cationic polymer to stabilize 10 to 40 wt % silica that is less than 200 nm is size. Improved optical density, reduced mottle and improved wet abrasion resistance are provided when the receiver is printed with an aqueous pigment-based ink. In further embodiments, the topmost layer can further include high levels of silica that makes the layer porous.

The present invention is an electrostatographic reproduction apparatus which includes a primary imaging member for producing an electrostatic latent image, a development station for applying toner particles to said latent image which forms a developed toner image, and a transfer station for transferring said developed toner image from the primary imaging member to a receiver. A fuser assembly is included for fixing the developed toner image to the receiver, to form a fused toner image on the receiver. An endless transport member is provided for transporting the receiver to or from the fuser assembly, the transport member having a substrate bearing an oil-absorbing porous layer that would tribocharge positively upon contact with negatively charged toner particles, and a porous overcoat outermost layer that does not tribocharge positively upon contact with negatively charged toner particles.

A cleaning system has a composite photoreceptive imaging member having a support layer, an electrically conductive layer interfacing with the support layer, a photoconductive charge generation layer interfacing with the electrically conductive layer and generating charge holes and electrons in response to exposure to electromagnetic radiation; a charge transport layer that allows charge holes to migrate from the charge generation layer to the outer surface while resisting migration of electrons from the charge generation layer to the outer surface and a cleaning blade member having a cleaning surface layer against the electrostatic surface to at least in part remove toner and debris from the outer surface. The cleaning surface layer has a first material and a second material that are combined in proportions that cause a triboelectric charge to be formed on the outer surface having a difference of potential of between zero and minus 20 volts.

A cleaning blade member includes a polymer substrate and an outermost layer consisting essentially of a non-particulate, non-elastomeric ceramer or fluoroceramer and nanosized inorganic particles that are distributed within the non-particulate ceramer or fluoroceramer in an amount of at least 5 weight % and up to and including 50 weight % of the outermost layer. A cleaning blade member including a polymer substrate and a fluorinated polyurethane ceramer coating surface layer. The polymer substrate may comprise polyurethane. The fluorinated polyurethane ceramer coating may comprise a fluorinated polyurethane silicate hybrid organic-inorganic network formed as a reaction product of a fluorinated polyurethane having terminal reactive alkoxysilane groups with a tetraalkoxysilane compound. The fluorinated polyurethane ceramer coating may be coated on the polymer substrate of the cleaning blade without any primer layer therebetween. Also described is an electrostatographic apparatus comprising a toner-contacting member and such a fluorinated ceramer coated cleaning blade for the toner-contacting member. The toner-contacting member may comprise an endless transport web. The fluorinated ceramer enhances the ability of particles to be released from the surface therefore reducing contamination generated due to particles attached to the surface. Coating of a cleaning blade made of polyurethane with such fluorinated ceramer resulted in improved cleaning performance.

The present invention is a release oil of the general formulae: wherein (Z) is an amine. The solvent extracted portion of the release oil has a ratio of A:B less than 1:5. Less than 10% of the molecular weight distribution of the release oil is less than m/z 1000. The release oil preferably has a viscosity of between 200 and 500 centistokes.

The present invention relates to photoconductive elements having an electrically conductive support, an electrical barrier layer and, disposed over the conductive layer, a charge generation layer capable of generating positive charge carriers when exposed to actinic radiation. The silsesquioxanes can be coated onto substrates to form abrasion-resistant layers having hole transport properties useful in devices that require charge transport properties, such as light-emitting diodes and organic electrophotographic elements such as photoreceptors or photoconductors. Also disclosed are electrophotographic elements which comprise an electrically conducting layer, a charge generating layer overlying the electrically conducting layer, and a charge transport layer overlying the electrically conducting layer.
