A method of lathing a lens, especially a contact lens, involves attaching the cylindrical blank of lens material to a first block of machineable plastic material, lathe cutting a desired first lens surface in the cylindrical blank, attaching the machined first lens surface of the blank to a second block, lathe cutting to remove the block of machineable plastic material, and lathe cutting a desired second lens surface in the blank. Both the first and second blocks may be adhered to the lens blank with an adhesive curable by ultraviolet radiation, and a two-piece block, composed of a head section and a body section, is disclosed.

Method for lathing a lens

Process and apparatus for disinfection of hydrophilic contact lenses by controlled exposure of the lenses to heat. In the apparatus is a compartment formed by a heat storage-transfer combination. The compartment forming combination is heated by means of a heating element. The heat is transferred to a contact lens carrying case received in the compartment. The heat is maintained at temperatures and for a period of time sufficient to disinfect hydrophilic contact lenses contained in the carrying case.

Apparatus for disinfection of hydrophilic contact lenses

A contact lens storage unit which is formed of first and second mating members. On one of these members, which may be the cap of the lens storage unit, a dome-like contact lens supporting element is provided. A cover, having a concave surface which cooperates with the dome-like contact lens supporting element to encage a contact lens is also provided. Finally, the unit includes a raised annular ring disposed about the dome-like contact lens supporting element. Complementing threads provided on both members and a seal complete the lens storage unit.

Contact lens holding unit

A carrying case includes first and second contact lens liquid storage chambers which are located on separate axes and have openings which are inverted one from the other. Each respective storage chamber has a plurality of threads for engagement with a compatible set of threads on each removable cap said caps being provided with a seal to promote integrity between the mating parts. Each cap has a convex base for receiving the concave surface of a contact lens and a concave cover pivotally supported to open and close immediately over the convex base to encapsulate the contact lens in the area defined between the convex base and the concave cover.
