A toy vehicle includes a rear body having a rear chassis portion extending downwardly therefrom which supports a pair of rear wheels. A front chassis is pivotally secured to the rear chassis and extends forwardly therefrom supporting a pair of front wheels. The vehicle further includes a front body portion formed of a pair of pivotally coupled members commonly secured to an elongated rearwardly extending gear rack. A spoiler slidably supported within the rear body is coupled to a forwardly extending gear rack. A compound gear is rotatably supported within the rear body and engages each gear rack such that movement in the forward direction of the rear spoiler causes a multiplied distance movement of the gear rack supporting the front body portion. A resilient membrane partially encloses the gear racks and is stretched between the rear chassis and the front body portion. As the spoiler is forced forwardly against the rear body, the gear rack and gear coupling drives the pivotally coupled front body portion forwardly allowing it to assume an open mouth configuration and exposing a pair of simulated jaws. The resilient membrane stretches to accommodate the forward extension of the vehicle.

A toy vehicle includes a body supporting a pair of rear wheels and a pivotally secured lower jaw portion supporting a pair of front wheels. The vehicle further includes a pair of pivotally secured pincers movable between a rearward or closed position and a forwardly extending or open position. Each pincer is coupled to a gear portion which in turn is coupled to one side of a two-sided gear rack movable within the vehicle body in response to a pivoting actuator. As the actuator is pivoted, the gear rack is driven forwardly or rearwardly to cause pivotal motion of the pincers. A resilient body is secured to the vehicle body and includes a plurality of flexible tubular tentacles which extend from the resilient body and are coupled to each of the pincers. As a result, the toy vehicle is configured in a relatively standard appearance closed position or a monster-like alternate configuration as the actuator is moved between alternative positions.

A toy vehicle includes a chassis supported by a plurality of wheels. A body includes a jaw which supports a plurality of teeth and is pivotally secured with respect to the chassis. A lever mechanism is coupled to the body and jaw and operates in response to user imposed force to configure the vehicle in either a closed or open mouth configuration.

A toy top having an air impeller-driven flywheel and a spring-latch mechanism which releases an upper portion of the top from a lower housing when an articulated arm of the spinning top comes into contact with an object such as a stationary object or another top. The flywheel located inside the lower housing is rotated by blowing air into one of two ducts on the housing. The stream of air comes into contact with the blades of an impeller causing rotation of the impeller and the flywheel which is attached to the impeller. The flywheel is attached to a shaft rotatably mounted inside the housing. Slots in bosses extending upward from the housing releasably engage a plate at the bottom of the upper portion. The slots disengage from the plate when one of two articulated arms of the spinning top contacts an object allowing a spring mounted inside the upper portion to push the upper portion away from the lower housing. The top appears to 'blow up' as the upper portion pops up from the housing.

A toy playset including a bridge which may be used in a road racing set to emulate the occurence of an explosion. The playset includes a launcher and a toy bridge with a track portion and an actuating device. The track portion includes at least one element thereof which may be operated by the actuating device to project a toy vehicle passing thereover in a manner simulating an explosion.

A toy car collision set (10) in which children attempt to crash nonsteerable unpowered cars (28, 30) at an intersection (12) when travelling in either the forward or reverse directions. The set includes at least two sets of tracks (14, 16, 22, 24) connected together at the intersection (12). A launcher (18, 20) is connected at one end of each of the tracks, and includes a piston assembly (34, 38) having a 5 to 1 compression ratio to be easily operated by a child hitting or pushing the top of the launcher. At the other end of each of the tracks, an elastic return means (26, 27) returns the launched cars along their respective tracks, if the car has not crashed at the intersection. The return means includes an elastic strip (52) stretched across the track to rebound a car striking the strip back along the direction in which it came to either strike another vehicle, at the intersection, or to be returned to the launcher for another launch.

A toy vehicle energizer and launcher (10) having a draw string energizing mechanism (30) with a drive spool (40) receiving a draw string (38) and a return spring (46). The drive spool (42) is connected to a toothed driving wheel (54) by a one-way clutch (67) which allows a vehicle (34) held in the launcher (10) to be energized by a number of pulls on the draw string (38). A retaining and release means (32) coacts with a drive wheel (56) of the toy vehicle (34) and a toothed driver (54) to allow the vehicle (34) to be held within the launcher (10) during energization, and to be released after energization by manual actuation of the retaining and release means (32).

A toy projectile launching device having a main tubular member in fluid communication with an air pump, an air storage tank and a projectile launching housing rotatably coupled to the main tubular member. A valve member manually operable within the main tubular member, and with the valve member in a first position air from the air pump passes into the air storage tank; in a second position of the valve member, the pressurized air within the tank is released to propel a projectile within the housing. A third position of the valve member permits air from the air tank to be released in minute quantities to actuate an air-operated sounding device.

A curved track section for self-propelled toy vehicles, the track having a width sufficient to accommodate two toy vehicles side by side. A portion of the track is provided with a lane divider with the entrance end of the track being provided with an abutment portion extending in the direction of travel of the vehicles from a position adjacent the outer periphery to a position generally intermediate the inside and outside of the track, the abutment having a progressively increasing height and width in the direction of travel the vehicle, the lane selection of the vehicle being determined by the speed or angle of entry into the entrance end of the track section.

A toy launcher is provided for launching airplanes, missiles or the like, the launcher being provided with a base having a drum member pivotally mounted within the base, the periphery of the drum having a bearing for receiving the axis of a joy stick handle which is pivotally mounted with respect to the drum member. A gimbal mechanism within the drum is operatively connected to the handle and to a launch arm extending out from the drum, the launch arm containing a launch mechanism for releasably receiving airplanes or the like for launching the same in response to actuation of a trigger mechanism in the handle. Manipulation of the joy stick angularly displaces the surface of the launch arm to permit pre-positioning of the intended flight path and bank angle of the projectiles to a given attitude prior to launching.

A track intersection for use with a plurality of other track sections to form a trackway for passage of toy vehicles thereon, the intersection having a curved trackway section having generally parallel opposed sidewalls of height generally equal to the height of the toy vehicle. The intersection is provided with an elevated roadway portion at the height of the sidewalls, the elevated roadway portion having first and second trackways, the first trackway being generally tangential to the exit end of the curve to permit a toy vehicle to enter the first trackway and leave the intersection through the exit end of the curve. The second trackway generally intersects the first trackway to permit a toy vehicle to leap the curve on the elevated roadway portion.
