Electronic mail (e-mail) system support for messages with different traffic types

Technologies are described herein for providing instant processing of email messages. In particular, instant processing of email messages is provided for sending emails to allow for instant communication and collaboration. According to one aspect presented herein, a method is provided for instant or near instant delivery of a message across multiple organizations. The method includes receiving the message from a client. Additionally, the method sends the message via email to multiple recipients across multiple organizations.

Instant delivery of messages

Technologies are described herein for altering message properties within a message to indicate acknowledgement. In particular, types of acknowledgment may include delivery receipts, read receipts and non-read receipts. According to one aspect presented herein, a method is provided for acknowledging a message. The method includes receiving a message from a client and attempting to send the message to a recipient mailbox. Additionally, the method alters properties of the message in response to attempting to send the message.

Enhanced acknowledgment for messages

Technologies are described herein for providing delivery optimization of email messages. In particular, direct delivery system is provided for sending emails to allow for instant communication and collaboration. According to one aspect presented herein, a method is provided for instant or near instant delivery of a message. The method includes receiving the message from a client. Additionally, the method analyzes the message to determine if it meets one or more factors for taking a direct path.

Conditional instant delivery of email messages

Technologies are described herein for providing post-processing of messages. In particular, the post-processing of messages occurs without any condition that the message was delivered. This post-processing of messages allows for system redundancy. A message to be sent is received and undergoes a subset of operations prior to being sent out. Currently, the processing operations are more extensive prior to sending off a message. After the message is sent for delivery, the message outgoes additional processing, even if the message is not successfully delivered.

Enhanced delivery of a message for multiple recipients

An application such as a mail transfer agent (MTA) enforces a resource quota within a multi-tenant environment. An email associated with a tenant is managed based on decisions evaluating the email against a queue quota and an association between the email and an email storm. The email is also managed based on another decision evaluating the email against a processing quota. In addition, the email is managed based on a cross MTA aggregate of usage information associated with the first, second, and third decisions.

Enforcing resource quota in mail transfer agent within multi-tenant environment

The present invention provides for a messaging system that automatically identifies a forest that corresponds to a particular recipient of a message, without using a common or unified directory that maps forests with recipients. In a network with multiple forests, each forest having multiple recipients, when a message is received at a message server with a destination address that does not uniquely identify a particular forest, the present invention provides for using a standard messaging protocol for querying each forest. The forests respond with status codes that indicate whether or not a recipient associated with the destination address corresponds to the forest being queried. If a status code indicates that the recipient corresponds to the particular forest, information may be stored and used to quarry that particular forest first, before querying other forests within the network.

Message delivery to multiple forests with no unified directory

Methods, systems, and computer program products for high-performance interprocess communication. Each process dynamically identifies routines responsible for managing communication received from other processes through a shared memory heap and a shared memory queue, each of the routines handling one or more operation codes. An allocation from the shared heap produces a process agnostic memory handle from which a process specific memory pointer may be obtained. Using the memory pointer, the enqueuing process places an operation code, parameters, and any other relevant data in the allocated memory and adds the memory handle to a shared queue. The dequeuing process removes the memory handle from the queue and generates a memory pointer to access the allocated memory in the dequeuing process. Upon retrieving the operation code from the allocated memory, the dequeuing process calls the appropriate handler routine. Enqueues may be registered to account for expected responses that are not received.

High performance interprocess communication

The SMTP protocol takes a message formatted according to a defined internet standard and wraps the message in an envelope. The message and envelope are sent to servers for transfer through the Internet to their intended destination. The SMTP protocol strictly defines the information that is transferred in the envelope and the format of the message. There is thus a real possibility that when messages are transferred from one network into an SMTP network that information will either be lost or not transferred correctly. The present invention provides systems and methods that take advantage of defined mechanisms to extend the SMTP protocol in order to create the novel extension that allows the transfer of virtually any information after the envelope is transferred but before the message is transferred. The invention allows information usually contained in the message portion to be transferred in the envelope portion. The invention also allows the preservation and transfer of information that would otherwise be lost.
