An implantable medical device system that includes a housing containing an electrical circuit and a connector header mounted on the housing. A first inner surface of the connector header forms a connector bore adapted for receiving a lead connector assembly for electrically coupling a medical lead to the circuitry contained in the housing, and one of the connector header and the lead connector includes a visibly modified surface for facilitating visual verification of full insertion of the medical lead connector assembly in the connector bore.

A medical device connector module includes a lead retention element extending through an opening in a sidewall of the connector module. The retention element includes a flow passage in fluid communication with a connector bore of the connector module and an outer surface of the sidewall.

Connector module having reduced insertion force

A data storage disk cartridge having a dual housing structure includes an inner housing that contains a disk, and an outer housing that contains the inner housing. The inner housing is at least partially removable from the outer housing for insertion into a disk drive. The outer housing remains external to the disk drive, however, except for a portion that is inserted into the drive to provide a docking channel for retraction of the inner housing. A shutter on the inner housing covers a portion of the disk, but is manipulable by the disk drive to uncover the disk and allow drive access. The dual housing structure of the cartridge is capable of significantly improving disk and drive reliability, particularly for recording applications that require higher areal recording densities, such as near field optical recording. In particular, the disk cartridge reduces the accumulation of debris on the disk and drive components. The dual-housing disk cartridge provides a system of partially redundant barriers that significantly reduce the possibility of debris accumulation. The barriers form a hierarchy of cleanliness that stands between the outside environment and the disk and drive components. Consequently, in a preferred mode, the disk is never exposed to the outside environment. The reduced amounts of debris contribute to more consistent optical and mechanical performance of the disk and drive, and thereby enhance data storage reliability.

Disk cartridge with dual housing structure

A method and apparatus for assembling a hub to an optical disk with an adhesive. The optical disk includes opposing first and second major surfaces and a central opening. The adhesive is predisposed onto the second major surface. The method includes supporting the first major surface of the disk at a defined three-dimensional position and orientation. The hub is aligned above the central opening of the disk such that the hub is movable to a plurality of three-dimensional positions and orientations with a hub placement assembly supporting an inner portion of the hub. The defined three-dimensional position and orientation of the first major surface is transferred to the hub placement assembly. The hub is maneuvered into contact with the adhesive by the hub placement assembly. More particularly, a final, three-dimensional position and orientation of the hub relative to the disk is dictated by the hub placement assembly as a function of the defined three-dimensional position and orientation of the first major surface.

Method for assembling a hub to an optical disk

A dual layer pre-recorded optical disc includes a transparent substrate, a partially reflective layer, a transparent spacer layer, and a highly reflective layer. One pattern of data pits is provided on the substrate, adjacent the partially reflective layer, and another pattern of data pits is provided on the spacer layer, adjacent the highly reflective layer. The transparent spacer layer comprises at least two sublayers. The partially reflective layer may be made of silicon carbide. A substrate-incident beam can be used to read data encoded in either data pit pattern depending on which layer the laser is focused upon. The dual layer disc has twice the data storage capacity of conventional single layer discs.

A composition suitable for use as a polymer layer disposed on a semi-reflective layer in an optical medium, such as an optical storage medium. The polymer layer includes an acidic component that promotes adhesion of the polymer layer to the semi-reflective layer.

Method of making an optical information record. A substrate having a surface for carrying an information bearing layer is provided. A curable polymer is provided on said surface of the substrate. A flexible stamper is provided having an information bearing pattern on a first surface thereof, said first surface having inner and outer regions. The stamper is distorted such that the inner region of the first surface bearing the information pattern bulges outward relative to the outer region, providing the first surface with a generally convex contour in at least one direction. The distorted stamper is positioned relative to the substrate such that the convex surface of the stamper having the information bearing pattern is capable of being pressed against the surface of the substrate bearing the curable polymer on the substrate. The distorted first surface of the stamper and the polymer bearing surface of the substrate are pressed together, causing the inner region of the stamper to first contact the substrate surface and the remainder of the distorted stamper to progressively contact the remainder of the stamper surface as the respective surfaces are further pressed together, thereby distributing the polymer across the substrate surface and forming a replica of the information bearing pattern in the polymer surface. The polymer is cured, thereby fixing the replica on the cured polymer surface, to provide a formed, information bearing layer on the substrate. The substrate is separated from the stamper.

Method and apparatus for making an optical information record

A hub secured to a substrate having a recording medium with a bond layer having a thickness of less than 1 millimeter. The bond layer bonds the hub with the substrate and includes a cross-linked adhesive with a monolayer of glass spheroids dispersed within the cross-linked adhesive. The bond layer thickness is no less than the effective maximum diameter of the spheroids.
