A tray for storing and splicing optical fibers in a cabinet-type enclosure. The tray includes a base. Extending from opposite sides at the front of the tray are fiber entrances, through which optical fibers from a cable positioned outside the tray enter the tray. A fiber splice area in which the splicing of optical fibers can be performed is located in the front portion of the tray. A storage area in which the optical fiber are stored is located in the rear portion of the tray and includes a plurality of retainers that extend from the base of the tray. The retainers are located in positions such that when the optical fiber is stored in the tray, the retainers prevent the fiber from being bent beyond its minimum bend radius. Each retainer comprises a small tab that projects generally vertically from the base of the tray. The tray is slidably mounted within a mount. The mount includes left and right side rails that are slidably inserted into slots on the inner left and right sidewalls of the cabinet. In this manner, the mount is slidably situated within the cabinet such that the exposure of the tray is increased and the entire contents of the tray can be accessed by sliding the mount outwardly from the cabinet and sliding the tray outwardly from the mount.

Apparatus for storing and splicing optical fibers

Support or frame for supporting one or more interconnections between optical fibers, the support is provided with an indentation for receiving buffer tubes of one of the optical fiber cables providing one of the interconnected optical fibers. An assembly or kit including the foregoing support, one or more fusion splice organizers, one or more bulkhead members for receiving and mounting an optical fiber connector for interconnecting a pair of optical fibers, one or more fasteners for fastening the bulkhead member or members to the support, and one or more fasteners for fastening the support to a support member. Alternative support or frame including a clamp for clamping one or more optical fiber splice trays. An enclosure may be included for being fastened around the support or frames to provide mechanical and environmental protection to the support and the optical fiber interconnections.

Fiber optic support apparatus

Optical fiber closure including a pair of mating surfaces one of which is provided with a groove having a first volume and a deformable sealing member mounted in and extending outwardly from the groove with the groove having a volume larger than the volume of the sealing member; upon the mating surfaces being forced together, the sealing member is compressed and deforms within the groove and provides a substantially fluid-tight seal between the surfaces. The closure may include a plurality of cable clamps provided with outwardly extending deformable sealing members which are received in grooves having a larger volume than the volume of the sealing members whereby upon the cable clamps being forced into engagement with optical fiber cables entering or exiting the closure the sealing members are received in the grooves and compressed and deformed within the grooves to provide a fluid-tight seal between the cable clamps and optical fiber cables entering or exiting the closure. Closure apparatus also may include a plurality of individual cable clamps each provided with individual sealing means and with each cable clamp being capable of being disengaged from a fiber optical cable without interrupting the sealing engagement between the other cable clamps and other optical fiber cables.

Closure for containing splices between optical fibers including a frame providing a plurality of optical fiber cable entry/exit ports, splice tray stacker mounted to the frame and for stacking a plurality of splice trays, and an outer cover for being fastened closed around the frame and the splice tray stacker to provide mechanical and environmental protection thereto.
