A modular connector assembly (10) includes at least first and second modules (12, 54) securable together to form the longer connector. Each module (52) includes a housing (14, 54) having a flange (32,72) extending outwardly from an endwall (24, 64) thereof that are adjacent one another when the modules (12, 54) are placed in an end to end relationship for forming the longer connector. The first flange (32) includes a base (34) having a first opening (36) extending vertically therethrough in communication with the mounting face (18) of first housing (14). The second flange (72) includes a base (74) spaced a selected distance above the mounting face (56) of the second housing 54 and a second opening (76) extending vertically therethrough in communication with the mounting face (58) of the second housing (54). At least portions of the first and second openings (36, 76) are configured for receipt therethrough of a fastener (102) for securing together and co-aligning the first and second modules (12, 54) to form the longer connector assembly 10.

A seating tool 10 for installing connectors on a circuit board comprises a base plate 12, an alignment plate 40 and fasteners 60 to fasten them together at respective fastening locations. The alignment plate 40 has at least two connector alignment surfaces 42, 44 at different locations thereon and a set of at least two fastening locations 46, 48 associated with a respective alignment surface for securing the alignment plate 40 to the base plate 12 in at least two orientations relative to the base plate 12 to accommodate board-mounting of differing connectors having different dimensions of the posts from the front faces of the connectors.

An electrical connector (10) includes a housing (12) and a plurality of right angled terminals (70), each disposed in a respective terminal receiving passageway (34) thereof. The body portion (76) of the terminals includes a first push surface (78) proximate a first connecting section (72), the first push surface (78) being adapted to cooperate with a push surface (48) along a wall of a respective passageway (34) when the connector (10) is mounted to the circuit board (102). The body portion (76) of at least a portion of the plurality of terminals (70) includes a second push surface (92) proximate a second or board connecting section (94), the second push surface (92) being adapted to cooperate with a second housing push surface (60) on a housing wall proximate the connector mounting face (18). When the connector (10) is mounted to the board (102) by applying force to a top of said housing (12), the housing walls push against both terminal body portions (78, 92) to urge said second connecting portions (94) into force fit relationship within corresponding apertures (104) of the circuit board (102), thereby pushing the terminals (70) at two spaced locations and keeping the terminals (70) stabilized and in axial alignment as the connector (10) is mounted to the board (102).

An improved compliant section (30) for a terminal connectable to a circuit board (54), the compliant section (30) having legs (32) with outer edges (34) thereof forming selected shapes axially therealong and an elongate hole (38) having a selected shape stamped transversely through the terminal separating the legs (32) and defined between inwardly facing edges (36) thereof. The selected shapes of the leg outer edges (34) are continuous surfaces, first diverging then converging toward an insertion end (40) of the terminal and having a widest dimension at a selected axial location. The hole (38) has first and second ends (42, 44) and a transverse median M at a selected axial location. The hole (38) is offset axially with respect to outer edges (34) of the compliant section (30) such that the transverse median M of the hole (38) is staggered axially with respect to the widest dimension of the outer edges (34) of legs (32) and such that the width of each leg (32) between outer and inner edges (34, 36) at the first end (42) of the hole (38) is less than the width of each leg (32) at the opposite second end (44) of the hole (38).

A method and structure includes a solder plate assembly (20) includes a high temperature plastic having apertures (22) arranged in a grid to receive contact pins (14) of a connector (12) inserted therethrough with solder rings (28) cast into the said apertures and adapted to be reflowed to join pins to circuit board circuits contained in board apertures (34) therein.

The present invention relates to mateable electrical connectors of the type wherein housings of insulating material carry within terminals of conductive material. Upon the connectors being telescopingly mated, the terminals slidingly engage and are pressed together by a biasing member on one of the two terminals.

A two-piece connector for battery jumper cables wherein the connector portions each indicate the positive and negative battery terminals to which the cables from the connector are to be connected.
