An optical system in which a screen modulates the light produced thereby. The intensity of the light image is varied as a function of screen position.

Variable illumination optical system

An apparatus in which the alignment of an optical system is displayed, thereby enabling misalignments therein to be corrected. The alignment apparatus, in conjunction with the optical system, generates a narrow sample light image. This sample light image is displayed so as to depict the optical system misalignment. Thereafter the optical system is adjusted and a corrected sample light image produced. The corrected sample light image is once again displayed to insure that the optical system is in alignment.

Optical system alignment apparatus

An electrophotographic copying machine having a moving photoconductive member, in which an original document is illuminated by a pair of light sources, which are energized alternately to illuminate the document at a frequency of 240 hertz. This frequency of illumination prevents visible lines in the copy.

Illumination system

An apparatus in which the alignment of an optical system is displayed, thereby enabling misalignments therein to be corrected. The alignment apparatus, in conjunction with the optical system, generates a narrow sample light image. This sample light image is displayed so as to depict the optical system misalignment. Thereafter, the optical system is adjusted and a corrected sample light image produced. The corrected sample light image is once again displayed to insure that the optical system is in alignment.

An optical system in which a screened light pattern and a light image of an original document are projected onto a common region of a light receiving member forming a modulated light image thereon. Collimated light rays are employed in the formation of the screened light pattern.
