An electric field sensor employs a capacitive pick-up electrode in a voltage divider network connected to a body emanating an electric field. The system is relatively insensitive to variations in the separation gap between electrode and body, reducing sensor motion artifacts in the output signal and stabilizing its low frequency response. The pick-up electrode may be positioned at a &ldquo;stand off&rdquo; location, spaced from intimate contact with the surface of the body. This is equivalent to providing low level capacitive values for the capacitive coupling between the pick-up electrode and the body whose electric field is to be monitored. Or a series limiting capacitor may be provided in the input stage. Human body-generated electrical signals may be acquired without use of conductive gels and suction-based electrodes, without direct electrical contact to the body, and even through thin layers of clothing.

According to the present invention, a plurality of new tuple-space operators is provided for enhancing the capability of tuple spaces to provide fine-grained control of presence and location systems. New Deactivate/Activate and Mass Timer Extension operators may be applied simultaneously to large numbers of tuples and anti-tuples, thereby improving system responsiveness. A new Query operator greatly increases the ability of presence and location systems to guarantee that private information in the tuple space remains private.

Tuple space operations for fine grained system control

An improved traffic speed radar unit, operating on the conventional doppler system, is disclosed wherein the unit includes means to verify that the internal time base frequency used to calculate vehicle speeds has not changed. Also, electronic memory is added both to facilitate an officer's work in taking notes and to allow for a more complete unit history to be maintained.
