The present invention relates to stable aqueous colloidal dipersions of sulfopolyureas and self supporting films formed from the dispersions which display good mechanical properties from about room temperature to temperatures exceeding 150.degree. C. The films of the invention, which are formed with no volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and no post-coating chemical or ionic cross-linking, are not redispersible in water and may be used to form heat resistant abrasive articles.

Aqueous sulfopolyurea colloidal dispersions, films and abrasive articles

Method for reducing water uptake in silyl terminated

Water-dispersible sulfopoly(ester-urethane) compositions which comprise, in their backbone, at least one arylene or alkylene sulfonic acid group or a salt thereof, the polymer being terminated by at least one hydrolyzable silyl group. The compositions of the invention preferably have a sulfonate equivalent weight of about 500 to about 12,000 g/equivalent and a number average molecular weight less than 50,000. Compositions of the invention have utility as durable treatments such as low surface energy coatings that exhibit release towards adhesive materials, grease, and oils.

Silyl terminated sulfopoly(ester-urethane) compositions

A pavement marking composition comprises a sulfopoly(ester-urethane) polymer which comprises in its backbone at least one non-terminal arylene or alkylene group comprising a pendant sulfonic acid group or salt thereof, the polymer of said pavement marking composition being terminated by at least one hydrolyzable silyl group. A method of making the composition is disclosed. The pavement marking composition can further comprise at least one of pigments, optical elements, fillers, or other adjuvants. Particularly desirable adjuvants include optical elements, particularly retroreflective elements, skid-resistant particles, and pigments.

Silyl terminated sulfopoly(ester-urethane pavement marking compositions

A water dispersible polymeric composition comprises at least one sulfo group containing segment, which group comprises at least one urethane or urea connecting group, said composition also comprising at least one hydrophobic segment, which segment comprises at least one urethane or urea connecting group. The composition when dried can provide a coating on a substrate or an article having low surface energy and preferably ink receptive properties. The article can provide release capabilities towards adhesives, particularly pressure sensitive adhesives.

Low-surface energy sulfo-polyurethane or sulfo-polyurea compositions

An antistatic adhesive article which comprises an adhesive layer and utilizes vanadium oxide to impart antistatic properties to the article. The article is preferably an adhesive tape or sheet. The adhesive may be pressure sensitive or non-pressure sensitive. The vanadium oxide may be incorporated into or onto the tape from an aqueous dispersion.

Aqueous-based mixtures comprising colloidal vanadium oxide and a dispersed sulfonated polymer impart antistatic properties to coatings on a substrate and to self-supporting articles. The preferred colloidal vanadium oxide is alkoxide derived and provides mixed valence vanadium oxide wherein the vanadium ions are typically +4 and +5. Preferred sulfopolymers include sulfopolyesters, sulfopolyurethanes, sulfopolyurethanes/ureas, sulfopolyester polyols, and sulfopolyols. Antistatic composite structures comprising colloidal vanadium oxide and a sulfopolymer are also disclosed.

A transparent recording sheet coated with a transparent water-based image-receptive coating composition of (1) from about 5 parts by weight to about 95 parts by weight of an oligomer incorporating at least one addition product having at least two reactants wherein one reactant is 3-glycidoxypropylalkoxysilane and the second reactant is at least one secondary amine; (2) from about 5 parts by weight to 95 parts by weight of a colloidal dispersion; (3) optionally, one or more anti-blocking agents; and (4) optionally, one or more surfactants.

Water-based transparent image recording sheet

An abrasive article (i.e., a coated abrasive article or a three-dimensional, low density abrasive article) having a sufficient amount of vanadium oxide incorporated therein to provide having a reduced tendency to buildup static electricity during the abrading of a workpiece. Preferably, the abrasive article further comprises a compatible binder (preferably, a sulfonated polymer) to aid in securing the vanadium oxide to the abrasive article. In another aspect, a method of making the same is taught.

The present invention relates to orthopedic casting materials having reduced tack and methods for preparing and using such orthopedic casting materials, wherein the materials comprise a nonwoven, stretchable fabric which is impregnated with a curable prepolymer resin. The nonwoven fabric comprises fiber bundles and apertures between the fiber bundles, with each of the fiber bundles comprising a plurality of fibers having interstices therebetween. The curable prepolymer resin is impregnated into the nonwoven fabric such that the interstices between the fibers receive the resin, while leaving the apertures between fiber bundles substantially unoccluded. Such orthopedic casting materials are relatively inexpensive and exhibit improved properties.

An isocyanate-terminated sulfocompound is the reaction product of a polyisocyanate and a sulfopolyol or sulfopolyamine which is the reaction product of one mole of a sulfodicarboxylic acid and about two moles of an aliphatic polyol or polyamine having two or more hydroxyl or amino groups attached to a linear chain and having a molecular weight of up to 2000. The sulfocompound can be reacted with ethylenically-unsaturated alcohols, water, polyamines, or polyols, to give ethylenically-unsaturated sulfocompounds, sulfopolyureas or sulfopolyurethanes.

A curable resin coated sheet useful as an orthopedic bandage which has reduced tack is provided. The resin coated sheet is pre-lubricated with a lubricant which is (a) bonded to the resin, (b) added to the resin or applied to the surface of the coated sheet, or (c) a combination of (a) and (b). The lubricant is present in an amount to reduce the kinetic coefficient of friction of a surface of the coated sheet to less than 1.2.
