Provided are modular mobility systems that can be used as gait trainers, wheelchairs, and/or standing aids. Modular mobility systems provided comprise a mobility base, a gait trainer module, a wheelchair module, and/or a standing aid module. Modular mobility systems provided herein are designed to adjust to users of different sizes and of different abilities and/or needs.

Modular mobility systems

A dynamic support system mounted to a chair to permit a user to be supported in one of a plurality of positions is provided. The dynamic support system includes a seat assembly coupled to the chair and having a cushion and a pair of support plate assemblies coupled to the cushion, each support plate assembly having a central interface plate coupled to the chair and disposed between an inner interface plate and an outer interface plate, the central interface plate of each support plate assembly having a pair of pivot slots, the inner and outer interface plates of each support plate assembly coupled to the cushion by a pair of bolts extending through the inner interface plate, the pair of pivot slots in the central interface plate and the outer interface plate of each support plate assembly. The seat assembly can adjust between an anterior position and a posterior position.

Dynamic support system for a chair to provide a user multiple supported positions

A foldable adjustable dynamic wheelchair including a seat assembly and a push handle assembly configured to serve as a chair back frame both of which are pivotally connected to a mobility base having a pair of spaced apart front rear wheels and a front wheel. A pair of selector plates each having a pair of valleys at a bottom edge thereof are each mounted to either side of the mobility base. A foot operable actuator member is connected to an over-center assembly for moving a latch bar into a valley on one side of center and for moving the latch bar outside a valley on the other side of center. With the latch bar located in one valley the wheelchair is configured in an upright configuration and when the latch bar is located in the other valley, the wheelchair is configured in an extended position.

Foldable adjustable dynamic wheelchair

The vehicle comprises a base and a seat moveable along a curve having a focal point. The vehicle is adjustable to position an occupant in the seat to achieve a desired position for the center of gravity of the occupant relative to the focal point of the curve. A method for minimizing effort required to tilt the seat of a personal mobility vehicle comprises the steps of providing a personal mobility vehicle having a seat that is adapted to move along an arc having a center of curvature, positioning the seat substantially horizontally, providing an occupant in the seat, and adjusting the position of the vehicle occupant's center of gravity so that the center of gravity is substantially equal to or below the center of curvature of the arc.

Personal mobility vehicle with tiltable seat

A foldable wheel chair or mobility base is disclosed that comprises a chair portion and a wheeled frame. The chair portion has a back hinged to a seat. The frame supports the chair portion, a spaced pair of front wheel caster assemblies and a spaced pair of rear wheels. A lower end of the back of the chair portion attaches to the frame via two spaced brackets which are slidably connected to upright curved rear support members such that they can be moved along the curved rear support members to permit adjustment of the chair tilt between predetermined stop positions along the curved rear support members without changing a seat to back angle. The chair portion is connected to the frame via front support members and diagonal struts connected to common pins fastened to each of the front wheel caster assemblies. The other end of each diagonal strut is hinged to one of the spaced brackets. The chair preferably provides a different distance between front and rear wheels at different seat to back angles and tilt positions of the chair portion. Further, the configuration permits virtually independent adjustment of chair portion tilt, seat to back angles and permits a separate dynamic movement of the seat to back angle to facilitate therapeutic exercise capability for a chair occupant.

Multifunctional foldable mobility base

An adjustable motion wheel chair having a mobility base for supporting a back panel and a seat panel. A pair of control plates are mounted to the mobility base and positioned laterally across the mobility base in spaced apart parallel relation. The back panel includes a pair of pivot pins located on opposite lateral edges of the back panel which are pivotally received by a respective control plate. A linkage member hingedly connects the seat panel to the back panel. Each control plate includes a forwardly extending stop for limiting the downward movement of a front edge of the seat panel. A latch member is attached to each control plate and is operable between a first position where the back panel is fixed in angular relation with the seat panel and a second position where the back panel is rotatable with respect to the seat panel.

Adjustable motion wheel chair

A center-of-gravity tilt-in-space wheelchair includes a base, a seat for supporting an occupant, and tracks supporting the seat for selective seat movement relative to the base. Wheels are adapted to support the base relative to a supporting surface. The tracks serve as rolling or sliding surfaces that allow the seat to rotate with respect to the base. Each track has a constant-radius arc with a focal point that is adapted to be coincident with the center of gravity of the wheelchair occupant. A low-friction supports the base relative to the seat. The low-friction support may include low friction elements that mate with the tracks to support for the tracks. The support can be adjustable to permit the overall tilt angle range of the tracks to be adjusted. The wheelchair seat can be adjusted to maintain the focal point of the constant-radius arc of the tracks coincident with the center of gravity of the wheelchair occupant. The front and rear wheels can be adjusted fore and aft relative to the focal point. A coupling includes plates having upper ends operatively attached to one another with seat canes therebetween and lower ends releasably attached relative to the side tubes. The lower ends can be movable in a longitudinal direction relative to the side tubes while remaining operatively connected to the side tubes. A base frame can include side frames having an offset at a front end and a caster housing supported by the offset. The offset is directed up to minimize the height of the side frames and down to maximize the height.

Center-of-gravity tilt-in-space wheelchair

A stroller and a stroller base suitable for use with handicapped children. A seat assembly is removably attached to a stroller base for adjustment between upright and tilted positions. The stroller base has an adjustable height mechanism for positioning the seat assembly at positions from near the floor to table height. Optionally, the seat assembly may be releasably mounted on a second base for tilting adjustment between upright and tilted positions. The first base may be designed primarily for indoor use and the second base may be designed primarily for pushing and for outdoor uses.

The frame assembly includes a tilt-in-space block for allowing the seat assembly to be positioned relative to the frame assembly at a multiplicity of angular positions while providing balanced support for the occupant. The back rest of the seat assembly can be positioned at a multiplicity of angular positions while providing proper anatomical alignment and support for an occupant. The seat assembly can be completely removed from the frame assembly and then installed so that the occupant can face in an opposite direction. The stroller is preferably constructed so as to be collapsible for easy transport and/or storage. The tilt-in-space block enables the structural tubing placement, handle bar placement, and tilt-in-space capability to be situated in one plane, thereby making the stroller narrower to provide the maximum amount of access to the environment for the occupant.

Back rest assembly (49) includes lateral pelvic supports (52) for carrying pelvic bolster pads (62), an outer shell piece (50) and an inner shell piece (28) adjustably secured to each other, torso supports (76) and a head rest assembly (88). Outer shell piece (50) has a deep concave shape while inner shell piece (28) has a shallow concave shape, which creates a gap (120). Gap (120) provides space for receiving torso supports (76) and head rest assembly (88) in a manner that these two components can be adjusted without interfering with the back rest cushion and without causing discomfort for the user.

A chest harness (10) includes a right harness piece (12) and a left harness piece (14). Right harness piece (12) includes an elongated right shoulder extension (16) and a lower torso portion (18). A narrow flap (20) is secured to the inside edge (22) of torso portion (18). On the inside face of flap (20) is secured a set of VELCRO type hooks (25) that cooperate with corresponding loops (27) on left harness piece (14). A first half (24) of a zipper (26) is secured to inside edge (22). Zipper (26) includes a handle (28), which is carried by zipper half (24). A draw cord or loop (29) is tied to handle (28). Draw cord (29) is longer than zipper (26), so that the draw cord can extend along the zipper and past the lower end of the zipper. Left harness piece (14) includes an elongated left shoulder extension (38) and a lower torso portion (40). Lower torso portion (40) includes a plastic backing plate (42) that is sufficiently wide to underlie the lower torso portion (18) of right harness piece (12). A second half (44) of zipper (26) is secured approximately at the center of torso portion (40). Loops (27) are spaced from zipper half (44) so as not to interfere with operation of the zipper.
