A sports simulation system comprises a projectile tracking apparatus configured to detect a projectile traveling through a projectile tracking region towards a display surface, a controller comprising one or more actuatable buttons, each actuatable button configured to communicate one or more control signals in response to actuation thereof, and at least one processing stage configured to receive data from the projectile tracking apparatus and determine three-dimensional positions, velocity and acceleration of a detected launched projectile traveling through said projectile tracking region, the three-dimensional positions, velocity and acceleration used by said at least one processing stage to calculate a trajectory of said launched projectile into a three-dimensional sports scene, receive one or more control signals from the controller and determine one or more control commands of one or more animated objects based on the one or more control signals, and use said calculated trajectory and said one or more control commands to generate updated image data including a simulation of said launched projectile into said three-dimensional sports scene and manipulate one or more animated objects associated with said three-dimensional sports scene, the updated image data associated with a sports result.

Sports simulation system

A golf simulation system includes a processor configured to receive image data from a launch area sensing unit to determine position, velocity, acceleration and spin of a golf ball and to calculate a trajectory of the golf ball into a golf scene presented on a display surface. The system includes a processor that generates a profile of a golf ball travel path over a plurality of images, determines the golf ball travel path length per image of the plurality of images, identifies regions corresponding to one or more markings on the golf ball, determines the distance between the regions in each image, calculates the spin rate and tilt of the golf ball using the determined distance, and uses the golf ball travel path length and camera device frame rate to estimate a spin tilt axis of the golf ball using the orientation of the regions in each image and the relative angle between the longitudinal axis of the regions and the longitudinal axis of the golf ball travel path.

A golf simulation system includes imaging devices capturing images of a projectile tracking region in front of a display surface from different vantages to detect a launched projectile traveling through the projectile tracking region towards the display surface. A projectile spin sensing unit captures images of a region at least partially overlapping with the projectile tracking region, and each captured image includes a projectile trail representing a travel path of the projectile. A processing stage receives data from the imaging devices and the projectile spin sensing unit and determines the three-dimensional positions, velocity, acceleration and spin of the projectile, and the three-dimensional positions, velocity, acceleration and spin are used by the processing stage to calculate a trajectory of the launched projectile into a presented golf scene.

Golf simulation system with reflective projectile marking

A sports simulation system includes a projectile tracker having a display presenting a three-dimensional sports scene. The projectile tracker captures images of a projectile tracking region disposed in front of the display to detect a launched projectile traveling through the tracking region towards the display. A processing stage, in communication with the projectile tracker, is responsive to data received from camera devices to determine three-dimensional positions, velocity, acceleration and spin of a detected projectile traveling through the tracking region, which are used by the processing stage to calculate a trajectory of the launched projectile into the three-dimensional sports scene.

A sports simulation system () comprises at least two imaging devices () capturing images of a projectile tracking region disposed in front of a display surface () from different vantages to detect a launched projectile traveling through the projectile tracking region towards the display surface; a projectile spin sensing unit () capturing images of a region at least partially overlapping with the projectile tracking region, each captured image comprising a projectile trail representing a travel path of the projectile when a projectile is present in the region during image capture; and at least one processing stage () receiving data from the imaging devices () and the projectile spin sensing unit () and determining the three-dimensional positions, velocity, acceleration and spin of a detected launched projectile traveling through the projectile tracking region, the three-dimensional positions, velocity, acceleration and spin being used by the at least one processing stage to calculate a trajectory of the launched projectile into a presented sports scene.

Apparatus and methods for system and method for testing and aligning a CRT which can sequentially perform all of the tests needed to precisely align the CRT and provide real-time feedback for operator adjustments. The system can integrate each of the measurements and automatically verify measurements previously performed as required. An improved color CCD camera is also provided which can maintain focus irrespective of variations in the thickness and glass curvature of the CRT screen. Further, photodiode optical filter and lens assemblies and wobulator assemblies can be incorporated into the system to further improve the testing and aligning of the CRTs.

Test and alignment system for electronic display devices

A method of calculating beam landing errors in an electronic display device having color phosphor elements and electron guns to generate electron beams to impinge on corresponding phosphor elements require a magnetic field to be generated to deflect an electron beam relative to the corresponding phosphor element on which the electron beam is to impinge. The intensity of light emitted by the phosphor elements in the measurement area is measured as the electron beam impinges thereon. The polarity of the magnetic field is reversed and the above step is repeated. Thereafter, the magnitude of the magnetic field is changed and the above two steps are repeated thereby to measure at least two different light intensities resulting from electron beam influenced by each polarity magnetic field. The at least two different light intensities resulting from electron beams influenced by each polarity magnetic field are then approximated with straight lines and an intersection point of the straight lines is determined. A corresponding magnetic field to the intersection point is also determined. A magnetic field is then generated corresponding to the intersection point and the intensity of light emitted by the phosphor element as the electron beam impinges thereon is measured. A beam landing error is then calculated using a characteristic of the phosphor element and at least some of the measured light intensities and corresponding generated magnetic fields.

Purity/beam landing error measurement method for electronic display

A test and alignment system for an electronic display device comprises a test pattern generator to be connected to an electronic display device for causing images of video test patterns to be displayed by the electronic display device. A test fixture is positioned in front of the electronic display device to be tested and aligned. The test fixture includes a frame supporting a plurality of close-up optical sensors to sense and produce image signals corresponding to small areas of images displayed on the electronic display device and a plurality of wide-angle optical sensors behind the close-up optical sensors for sensing and producing image signals corresponding to large areas of images displayed on the electronic display device. A computer controls the test pattern generator and processes and analyses the image signals generated by the close-up and wide-angle optical sensors to perform a series of tests on the electronic display device. A display provides a visual indication of the results of the series of tests performed by the computer.
