A rotary tool includes a motor having an output shaft, the output shaft defining an axis of rotation. The motor is configured to rotate the output shaft in a first direction about the axis of rotation. An accessory tool retention mechanism is attached to a distal end portion of the output shaft and configured to releasably retain an accessory tool in alignment with the axis of rotation. A fan mechanism includes a plurality of fan blades attached to the accessory tool retention mechanism and extending radially outwardly therefrom. The plurality of fan blades are configured to move air forwardly in a direction that is generally parallel to the axis of rotation as the accessory tool retention mechanism is rotated in the first direction by the output shaft.

A hemodialysis machine has ports of a disinfection manifold for receiving the arterial and venous line connectors terminating the arterial and venous lines. The ports are in fluid communication with a hydraulic system that circulates disinfection fluid through the machine including the extracorporeal circuit. The ports are constructed so as to provide a gap extending circumferentially around the arterial and venous line connectors. When the disinfection fluid circulates through the ports of the disinfection manifold, the fluid circulates around the external surfaces of the connectors as well as through the internal fluid passages, thereby insuring a complete disinfection of the connectors.

A connector for a tube and a port construction for sealingly and securely receiving the connector. The connector has a male luer comprising a locking hub and a cylindrical tubing port. The cylindrical tubing port receives the free end of the tube. A second piece is provided that envelops the male luer, comprising a elongate cylindrical housing having a interior surface. The male luer and the tube are snugly inserted within the interior surface of the second piece to form a unitary connector. The port receives the connector and has a housing having a first end and a second end and an open interior region defining first and second chambers and a housing axis. The first and second chambers are disposed within the first and second ends of the housing, respectively. A locking knob is movably mounted on the first end of the port apparatus and movable along the housing axis relative to the first end between first and second positions. The knob is rotatable in the second position relative to the first end into a locking engagement with the housing. When the connector is inserted into the first chamber of the port, the user rotates the knob to one side to securely retain the connector. The connector is pressed into sealing contact with an O-ring disposed in the interior region of the first chamber, thereby preventing any leakage around the connector and port. Various alternative tubing connectors are disclosed.

A dialysis machine is disclosed that incorporates a water treatment module, a dialysate preparation module having a dialysate circuit, and an extracorporeal circuit including a dialyzer and arterial and venous blood lines that connect to the patient. The machine accomplishes on-line disinfection of all the fluid circuits of the machine, including the water treatment module, the dialysate preparation module and extracorporeal circuit, the arterial and venous lines, and the dialyzer, by circulating water heated to a high level disinfection temperature (e.g., 80 degrees C.) through the fluid passages of the machine for a sufficient time (such as an hour) to achieve high level disinfection. After the dialysis session is ended, the patient connects the arterial and venous lines to ports in a disinfection manifold that places the arterial and venous lines into fluid communication with the heated water. Thereafter, the machine is ready to disinfect the fluid circuits including the extracorporeal circuit. In a preferred embodiment, the ports of the disinfection manifold ports include recessed features that permit the hot water to circulate on the interior and exterior surfaces of the arterial and venous line connectors, thereby insuring that the surfaces of connectors themselves are also disinfected.

The present invention relates to a sterile form, filled and sealed flexible solution container and an attached port assembly that allows for the sterile dispensing of the solution. In particular, the present invention relates to a sterile formed, filled and sealed flexible solution container and a sterile administration port assembly which is attached without interrupting the complete sealing of the hermetically sealed fluid container and which allows for the sterile packaging, storage and delivery of a sterile medical solution without heat degradation or oxygen permeation.

An intravenous container has a siphoning port which permits use with differently sized piercing pins. The container has an access port through which the piercing pin is inserted into the container. A siphon area is provided which is in operative relationship with the access port, is dimensioned to accommodate the piercing pin, and which is in fluid communication with the solution in the container. The piercing pin is inserted into the container through the access port and positioned within the siphon area to create a siphoning effect for maximizing the use of the solution in the container.

Latching members provided on the pin engage a peripheral lip provided on the end cap of the vial to maintain the latching relation between the pin and the vial. A drug infusion manifold that includes a housing defining a plurality of spaced apart fluid chambers that have a closed first end portion and an opposing second end portion. The second end portions of immediately adjacent chambers are in fluid communication through channels extending therebetween. A plurality of spaced apart fluid inlets are formed in the housing in fluid communication with a corresponding fluid chamber. A check valve means is provided in each fluid chamber for directing drugs and/or solutions from the inlets into the chamber and precluding fluid flow from the chamber. An outlet is formed in the housing in direct fluid communication with at least one of the chambers.
