A method of manufacturing a polyisocyanurate foam insulation board, the method comprising contacting a stream of reactants that comprise an isocyanate-reactive compound with a stream of reactants that include an isocyanate compound to form a reaction product, where the step of contacting takes place in the presence of a blowing agent and a low-boiling inert gas, and where the amount of low-boiling inert gas present at the time of the contacting is sufficient to result in frothing of the reaction product.

Thermoformable polyisocyanurate foams are prepared by reacting together under foam-forming conditions an organic polyisocyanate and an isocyanate-reactive compound, especially an aromatic polyester polyol, the equivalent ratio of isocyanate groups to isocyanate reactive groups being at least about 1.2:1. The foams and faced composites thereof can be thermoformed for a wide range of uses, such as in the interior of motor vehicles, aircraft, ships and other transport means, and of both residential and commercial buildings.

A thermally insulating structural laminate comprising a core of rigid plastic foam having two major surfaces, at least one of the major surfaces of the foam being attached to a facer comprising a fribrous sheet having at least one layer of an air- and moisture-impervious polymer disposed on the inner surface thereof and interposed between the fibrous sheet and the foam, the oxygen transmission of the polymer being a value of less than about 1 cc/100 in.sup.2 -24 hrs-atm sufficient to make the facer substantially impervious to the passage of air and water vapor, resulting in the long-term preservation of insulation value.
