A high power ferrite microwave phase shifter that is both compact and low cost. The ferrite phase shifter includes a waveguide having a first cylinder and a second cylinder, the radius of the second cylinder being less than the radius of the first cylinder. The second cylinder is disposed within the first cylinder such that the two cylinders have a common axis of symmetry. The waveguide includes a first septum formed as a disk and disposed within the second cylinder. The disk has a pie-shaped aperture formed therethrough and is centrally disposed within the second cylinder so that the two cylinders and the disk share the same axis of symmetry. The second cylinder has an opening formed therethrough that is aligned with the pie-shaped aperture. The waveguide further includes a second septum that extends from the first cylinder to the disk center while bisecting the pie-shaped aperture, thereby separating an input from an output of the ferrite phase shifter. The waveguide is loaded with ferrite and a magnetic field is applied to the ferrite for controllably shifting the phase of signals propagating through the ferrite phase shifter device.

Compact high power analog electrically controlled phase shifter

A microwave antenna and receiver assembly is described for use at gigaherz frequencies wherein the antenna is a microstrip antenna and the receiver includes a stripline filter circuit which is integrated in a layered configuration with both the microstrip antenna and the amplifier so as to achieve a very low noise figure, a low SWR and preserve good receiver characteristics, while being easily assembled inside a common radome housing. An inexpensive substrate material formed of alternating layers of polypropylene and woven glass is described for use with the microstrip antenna and other microwave structures.

Microstrip circuit assembly and components therefor

A multiple waveguide junction such as a magic T is described capable of coupling large average and peak powers with a low standing wave ratio over a wide bandwith. The magic T structure employs waveguide arms which meet at a common junction region and has a plane of symmetry that bisects both the E and H input waveguide arms. The latter arms each have necked down segments so as to improve the bandwidth of the structure. Impedance matching elements are employed in the junction region. One element has a ridge-like shape selected to provide an impedance match to the H input waveguide arm. Other matching elements are employed to provide a low SWR over a bandwidth that approaches a 3:1 ratio.
