A method in one embodiment includes fabricating a tape having an applicator portion for applying an organic coating to a magnetic head for reducing exposure of the head to oxidation promoting materials. The method also includes applying the organic coating to the applicator portion of the tape, the organic coating being for coating a tape bearing surface of the magnetic head with the organic coating upon the applicator portion being run over the tape bearing surface of the magnetic head. The method further includes applying a lubricant to a data portion of the tape.

Protecting a sensitive device from corrosion

A method for protecting a magnetic head according to one embodiment includes applying an organic coating to a magnetic head using a product having an applicator portion for applying an organic coating to a magnetic head. The organic coating is on the applicator portion of the tape, and a lubricant is on a data portion of the tape. The lubricant has a different composition than the organic coating. Another method for protecting a magnetic head includes applying an organic coating to a magnetic head for reducing exposure of the head to oxidation promoting materials; and storing the magnetic head. Another method includes fabricating a tape having an applicator portion for applying an organic coating to a magnetic head for reducing exposure of the head to oxidation promoting materials; applying the organic coating to the applicator portion of the tape; and applying a lubricant to a data portion of the tape.

A product according to one embodiment includes a tape having an applicator portion for applying an organic coating to a magnetic head; the organic coating on the applicator portion of the tape; and a lubricant on a data portion of the tape. The lubricant has a different composition than the organic coating. A method for protecting a magnetic head according to one embodiment includes applying an organic coating to a magnetic head using the foregoing product.

A magnetic storage system according to one embodiment includes a magnetic head having a removable organic coating thereon in an amount sufficient for reducing exposure of the head to oxidation promoting materials. The system also includes an applicator in a drive in which the magnetic head resides, the applicator being configured to apply the organic coating directly to the magnetic head without contacting the magnetic head. At least one guide is configured to create a spacing between the magnetic head and the guide, wherein the spacing is sufficient to insert the applicator into the spacing.

Systems and methods for protecting a sensitive device from corrosion

A magnetic storage system according to one embodiment includes a magnetic head having a removable organic coating thereon in an amount sufficient for reducing exposure of the head to oxidation promoting materials. A kit according to one embodiment includes a drive having a magnetic head, and a tape having an applicator portion for applying an organic coating to the magnetic head for reducing exposure of the head to oxidation promoting materials.

A product according to one embodiment includes a tape having an applicator portion for applying an organic coating to a magnetic head for reducing exposure of the head to oxidation promoting materials; the organic coating on the applicator portion of the tape; and a lubricant on a data portion of the tape. A product according to another embodiment includes a tape having a data portion along a portion of a length thereof, and a cleaning portion along another portion of the length of the tape, the cleaning portion being for removing an organic coating from a magnetic head. A magnetic storage system according to one embodiment includes a magnetic head having a removable organic coating thereon in an amount sufficient for reducing exposure of the head to oxidation promoting materials.

Methods and apparatus provide for non-destructive cleaning of magnetic tape. In one embodiment, a continuing length of the magnetic tape is submersed and passed through a covered solvent bath; and each side (front and back) of the continuing length of magnetic tape is swabbed with a cotton swab subsequent to the submerging step. The cotton swabs are arranged to swab each respective side of the magnetic tape.

Cleaning magnetic tape

A circuit for detecting antigens on biosample tracks comprising a processor, an electromagnetic write head for magnetizing nanoparticles attached to the antigens via antibodies in response to a write signal from the processor, and a first amplifier for supplying power to the write head. The circuit further comprises a magneto-resistive read sensor for detecting the magnetized nanoparticles upon receiving a read signal from the processor, and a second amplifier for supplying power to the read sensor. The write head and read sensor may be part of a head module in a magnetic tape drive. Nanoparticles of differing magnetic properties may be selectively paired with antibodies associated with different antigens to allow different antigens to be detected upon a single scan by the read-sensor.

Circuit for detecting analytes via nanoparticle-labeled substances with electromagnetic read-write heads

In one embodiment, a system includes a cable comprising a plurality of leads and an ESD dissipating adhesive coupled to the plurality of leads in a coverage area for providing ESD protection to an element of an electronic device. The ESD adhesive comprises a mixture of a polymeric thin film and electrically conductive fillers dispersed in the film, and the ESD adhesive has a resistivity from about 50 to 100 M&#x3a9;. In another embodiment, a method for providing ESD protection to an element of an electronic device includes applying an ESD adhesive across exposed leads of a cable and evaporating the solvent from the ESD adhesive. At least some of the leads are coupled to an element of an electronic device. The ESD adhesive comprises a polymeric thin film, electrically conductive fillers dispersed in the polymeric thin film, and a solvent for controlling a viscosity of the ESD adhesive.

Low viscosity electrostatic discharge (ESD) dissipating adhesive

A cable in one embodiment comprises a plurality of leads; and an electrostatically dissipative adhesive operatively electrically coupling the leads together, the adhesive comprising a mixture of an adhesive material and electrically conductive particles intermixed with the adhesive material. A method in one embodiment comprises applying an electrostatically dissipative adhesive to exposed leads of a cable for operatively electrically coupling the leads together, the adhesive comprising a mixture of an adhesive material and electrically conductive particles intermixed with the adhesive material. Additional embodiments are presented.

Cable having ESD dissipative adhesive electrically connecting leads thereof

A cable having an electrostatic discharge (ESD) dissipative layer in one embodiment includes a plurality of leads; an ESD dissipative layer; and a coupling layer between the leads and the ESD dissipative layer, the coupling layer electrically connecting each of the leads, individually, to the ESD dissipative layer. A cable having an electrostatic discharge (ESD) dissipative layer in another embodiment comprises at least 16 leads; an ESD dissipative layer; and a coupling layer between the leads and the ESD dissipative layer, the coupling layer electrically connecting each of the leads, individually, to the ESD dissipative layer. A method for fabricating a cable in one embodiment comprises coupling an electrostatic discharge (ESD) dissipative layer to a plurality of leads using a coupling layer between the leads and the ESD dissipative layer, the coupling layer electrically connecting each of the leads, individually, to the ESD dissipative layer.

An electrostatically dissipative adhesive in one embodiment includes a mixture comprising: an adhesive material; and electrically conductive particles intermixed with the adhesive material, the electrically conductive particles being present in an amount between 0 and about 10% by weight of a total weight of the mixture. An electrostatically dissipative adhesive in another embodiment includes a mixture comprising: an adhesive material; and electrically conductive particles intermixed with the adhesive material, the electrically conductive particles being present in an amount between 0 and about 10% by weight of a total weight of the mixture, wherein the mixture has at least 50% of a lap shear strength as measured in accordance with ISO 4587 after curing for 72 hours at 22&#xb0; C. as the raw adhesive material has as measured in accordance with ISO 4587 after curing for 72 hours at 22&#xb0; C.

Electrostatic dissipative adhesive

A method in one embodiment includes applying an organic coating to a magnetic head for reducing exposure of the head to oxidation promoting materials; and storing the magnetic head. A method in another embodiment includes applying an organic coating to a magnetic head for reducing exposure of the head to oxidation promoting materials, the organic coating being applied to the magnetic head after the head is installed in the magnetic storage system. Another method includes fabricating a tape having an applicator portion for applying an organic coating to a magnetic head for reducing exposure of the head to oxidation promoting materials; applying the organic coating to the applicator portion of the tape; and applying a lubricant to a data portion of the tape. A method in another embodiment includes fabricating a tape having a data portion, and a cleaning portion for removing an organic coating from a magnetic head.

A system in one embodiment includes a substrate; a thin film structure coupled to the substrate, the thin film structure comprising at least one of read transducers and write transducers; a closure; and an electrostatically dissipative adhesive coupling the closure to at least one of the thin film structure and the substrate. The adhesive comprises a mixture comprising: an adhesive material; and electrically conductive particles intermixed with the adhesive material, the electrically conductive particles being present in an amount between 0 and about 10% by weight of a total weight of the mixture. The closure defines at least a portion of a tape bearing surface. Additional systems and methods are also presented.

Systems having components coupled with electrostatic dissipative adhesive

A method for protecting a magnetic head according to one embodiment includes reducing a relative humidity in a vicinity of a magnetic head by passing an elevated bias current through a sensor of the head during at least some time periods when the sensor is not in use for reading data, the elevated bias current being chosen to be sufficient to heat the sensor to a level which will reduce the local relative humidity to below a threshold level for reducing or eliminating corrosion of the sensor. Additional methods are also presented.
