A continuous multi-component slurrying process at an oil or gas well comprises flowing at least three separate streams of different essential materials directly into a predetermined mixing unit at the oil or gas well, wherein each of the essential materials is required to obtain a predetermined defining characteristic of the slurry.

Continuous multi-component slurrying process at oil or gas well

A method of controlling a continuous multi-component slurrying process at an oil or gas well comprises continuously flowing substances for creating a slurry in response to a slurry flow rate factor and continuously flowing another substance for the slurry in response to a flow rate of at least a predetermined one of the other substances or the slurry itself. The method can include density control, slurry (tub) level control, and a combination of such controls. The method can operate in either closed loop or open loop manner, and control can be effected with either of two types of control signals depending on whether the controlled device is an integrating or non-integrating type. The method can also provide for bumpless transition between manual and automatic control.

Control method for a multi-component slurrying process

An automatic rate matching system is provided such that the delivery of bulk material is matched with the quantity of bulk material required by a process. An optical probe is used which determines the depth of material delivered into a hopper, prior to its retrieval for use in the process. The probe and associated electronic components output a signal to a CPU which then varies the speed of a belt conveyor based upon the depth of material. As the material depth decreases, belt speed is increased. Conversely, as material depth increases, belt speed is decreased. Therefore, the delivery rate of bulk material is matched to the quantity required in a process by varying the speed of the conveyor belt, based upon the depth of material in the hopper.

Automatic rate matching system

A method of transferring radioactive substance wherein a radioactivity shielding assembly, suitable for transferring a radioactive substance with a reduced risk of human exposure and environmental contamination, includes a protective shield casing having a reservoir disposed in the casing for receiving the radioactive substance. Associated with the casing is a coupling structure for coupling the reservoir and casing directly to a receiver into which the radioactive substance is to be transferred. The casing includes a side shielding structure in which the reservoir is retained and two end shield structures which are removably attached to the side shield structure. The two end shield structures are removed from the side shield structure at the location at which the radioactive substance is to be discharged, but such removal leaves the reservoir protectively received in the side structure to maintain continued protection against radioactive exposure or contamination.

Radioactivity shielding transportation assembly

A control system is provided which can be retrofit to existing conventional blender devices, such as a blender trailer used for combining a pregelled liquid with a solid particulate additive at a well site. The control is provided either manually or automatically from a remote location where a display unit and a computer unit of the invention are located, such as in a frac van. The display unit and the computer unit are connected together by a multi-conductor cable, and the display unit is connected by a multi-conductor cable to a terminal unit mounted on the blender. Control signals are output from the display unit, under automatic control by the computer unit or under manual control by potentiometers attached to the display unit, to control electrohydraulic valves associated with screw conveyors mounted on the blender. Linear variable differential transformer signals from the electrohydraulic valves, rotational speed signals from the screw conveyors, and flow rate signals from the inlet pregelled liquid are communicated to the display unit for use by it and the computer unit in generating the valve control signals.

Automatic density control system for blending operation

A method of logging a well includes the steps of moving a tagging agent into a well so that the tagging agent is deposited in an earthen formation of the well, which tagging agent is non-radioactive at least until just prior to entering the well; irradiating the tagging agent so that the tagging agent exhibits at least one tagging agent characteristic distinguishable from earthen formation characteristics, and detecting the at least one tagging agent characteristic after the tagging agent has been deposited in the earthen formation.

Method of logging a well using a non-radioactive material irradiated

A transportation assembly includes a single container having a primary confinement receptacle and a secondary confinement receptacle in which the primary confinement receptacle is retained. In the preferred embodiment the primary confinement receptacle has two reservoirs defined in it, one of which is for storing and transporting a radioactive substance and the other of which is for storing and transporting a diluting substance in which the radioactive substance is to be diluted at a location, such as a well site at which a radioactive tracer injection operation is to be performed. A system incorporating such a container and a method of using it are also disclosed.
