An embodiment of an adjustable cervical collar system includes a collar body and a chin support structure assembled together, about respective pivots at opposed ends, for pivotal movement about a pivot axis so that the angle subtended by the collar body and chin support structure can be adjusted. The collar body and chin support structure can be locked in a selected position by a locking mechanism. A release mechanism permits the wearer to release the locking mechanism using one hand, and the angular position of the chin support structure relative to the collar body is changed manually. When the release mechanism is released, the locking mechanism automatically locks the chin support in the new position. A neck strap is detachable from the chin support structure and the collar body, and its length is also adjustable.

An orthosis comprises a cervical portion that holds a head in place relative to a thoracic portion worn by a wearer. The orthosis has an intermediate portion disposed intermediate the cervical and thoracic portions. The orthosis also has a first adjustment region that provides at least 15&#xb0; of relative movement between the cervical and intermediate portions, and a second adjustment region that provides at least 15&#xb0; of relative movement between the thoracic and intermediate portions. First and second adjustment regions allow the orthosis to comfortably accommodate differently proportioned wearers, and each comprises one or more locking devices to prevent undesired movement of the cervical and thoracic portions relative to the intermediate portion.

The present invention provides a cervical collar with a rack and pinion adjustment mechanism. The rack moves a chin support member, which raises and lowers a chin piece. Independently, the present invention provides methods and mechanisms in which the chin support can angulate independently of the collar body. Such angulation is preferably accomplish by pivotally supporting the chin piece on the racks, or on the left and right chin support pieces. Thus, in a preferred class of embodiments, the collar has a pivot for the chin support pieces relative to the collar body, and an other pivot for the chin piece relative to the chin support pieces.

A throwing disc with changeable aerodynamic characteristics for use with human hands having fingers, comprising a first member which is circular and has a diameter and a thickness substantially less than the diameter of the first member. The first member has first and second surfaces and has an outer margin and a downward depending lip adjoining the outer margin. A second member is centrally disposed with respect to the first member. The first and second members are interconnected so the first and second members can move in unison as the throwing disc is thrown. The second member is movable with respect to the first member for changing the aerodynamic characteristics of the throwing disc.

An article of furniture foldable into a flat state and made of stiff sheet material includes a plurality of substantially vertical base panels, connected at their lateral edges to form a base portion, and a seat panel which is integral with and hinged from at least one of the base panels along at least one hinge line. The seat panel is disposed substantially horizontally over the base portion while in use and is pivotable around the hinge line to a substantially vertical position when the article of furniture is folded. A spine portion is provided between two of the base panels for reinforcing the article and includes a pair of flanges which are secured to each other. A reinforcing member is disposed within the base portion and is secured to the spine for reinforcing the seat panel.
